England’s third lockdown began in early January 2021. For months, we were forced to stay at home and our cultural lives were put on hold ✖️. Finally, on Monday 17th of May museums will reopen in England and we can’t wait to visit all our favourite institutions again 🖼🤩. This separation has once again reminded us of culture’s power and importance. Have a read of the article written for by our contributor Alice Jaspars. Here, we look back at one of the renowned commission's by in 2011, simply titled FILM. It was projected onto a towering white monolith and watched by viewers in an otherwise blacked-out space (it marked the first film-based commission). At 11 minutes long and completely silent, the 35-mm film work was described by Tate as “a surreal visual poem” comprising images of nature, allusions to artworks and dream-like seqences. was a nominee for the in 1998, won the in 2006, and was elected to the Royal Academy of Arts in 2008.
