DANGOTE WANTS TO OWN THE SHIPS MOVING ITS $1 BILLION CEMENT BUSINESS

THE MOVE: Dangote Industries is moving to acquire its own vessels after struggling to secure shipping capacity for regional exports. The problem became stark when the group could not find a vessel to move just 1,000 tonnes of cement from Nigeria to Ghana.

POWER PLAY.

When logistics becomes the constraint on growth, control of logistics becomes a strategic asset.

WHY: Dangote has built massive production and distribution capacity, but road exports into West Africa face taxes and border costs that can make Nigerian products less competitive. Owning vessels would give the group greater control over another critical part of its supply chain while opening a more efficient route for cement and potentially other products.

TILAKNAGAR JUST TURNED A $500 MILLION BET INTO A NEW GROWTH ENGINE

THE MOVE: India’s Tilaknagar Industries says it is open to another acquisition of roughly the same scale after its nearly $500 million purchase of Imperial Blue from Pernod Ricard. The deal has already nearly tripled quarterly revenue to $107.5 million, with Imperial Blue accounting for almost two-thirds of sales volume.
