How far can typography go before it becomes sculpture?

Exploring 3D extruded type by transforming a simple word into a physical form with depth, rhythm, and movement. Hot metal typesetting vibes

The challenge wasn’t creating the letters—it was making the negative space as interesting as the typography itself.

Would you display this as public art, a brand installation, or gallery piece? Typography

3DTypography

26/05/2026

A while back I created some work for , and revisiting the original files this morning reminded me how much I enjoy exploring the space between graphic design, typography and physical experience.

I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of turning visual work into something sculptural, taking flat compositions and pushing them into physical form through scale, materials, lighting and texture.

There’s something powerful about typography when it leaves the screen and becomes an object people can move around, interact with and experience spatially.

In the past I had the opportunity to collaborate with on projects for Virgin, helping bring some of these ideas into the real world. That process of translating concepts into fabricated structures, surfaces and environments still feels incredibly exciting to me.

Looking back at these experiments, I think the concepts still hold up. Mark Bloom’s Aeonik typeface lends itself particularly well to this kind of application, bold, geometric, architectural letterforms that feel naturally suited to large-scale public installations and experiential spaces.

I’d love to continue exploring more work in this area: immersive typography, fabricated forms, soft structures, extrusions and large-scale sculptural branding experiences that blur the line between graphic design, product, fashion and architecture.

Letterforms as objects. Typography as environment.

A while back I created some work for . Exploring this morning with the original files I’ve always been fascinated turning my work into experiential sculpture, playing with material finishes and forms. Had the pleasure of working with in the past to bring some of my ideas to life for Virgin. I think these concepts work really well. Mark Blooms Aeonik type in a public space. Large and engaging.
