Basic Criteria (for all SIA licences)

1. Age Requirement:
You must be at least 18 years old.
2. Right to Work in the UK:
You need to have the legal right to work in the UK.
3. Criminal Record Check:
A criminal background check is required.
• Having a criminal record does not automatically disqualify you, but certain offences (especially violent or dishonesty-related) may lead to refusal.
• The SIA uses a criminality criteria points system to assess this.
4. Identity Verification:
You must provide valid ID documents (e.g., passport, driving licence, utility bills, etc.).
5. Qualifications:
You must hold a relevant SIA-recognised qualification:
• For example, to apply for a Door Supervisor licence, you need the Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry.
• Training must include first aid (EFAW) as a prerequisite before the main course (since April 2021).
