Hi, I'm Anthony, I'm a freelance public speaking trainer and coach specialising in accent reduction. The work I do falls into two broad categories:
1) accent reduction: I work mostly with non-native speakers whose English is fluent but strongly-accented. There's no language barrier, and yet they still struggle to make themselves understood. I show them how to adjust their pronunciation and speech
patterns so that they retain their native accent - which is part of their charm! - but learn to communicate with clarity and confidence;
2) confident effective communication: for native English speakers who want to speak and be listened to. This is not just about presenting or public speaking; I work with people to make even their everyday speech more effective and engaging. Whether the issue is mumbling, speaking too fast, too quietly, a monotonous or hesitant tone, usually the underlying problem is to do with confidence. I help people to fine-tune their speaking technique, so that their confidence increases, and speaking becomes a pleasure rather than a chore. As for my client base, the people I work with are professionals from all sorts of fields, including business, finance, medicine, law, media and technology. As a trainer and workshop leader I've worked for a wide range of corporate clients, including Adidas, Google, BNY Mellon, Baxter Healthcare, PwC, KMPG and more, on presentation skills, business communication and influencing. In terms of my background, I read English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford, where I specialised in Linguistics, and went on to train in voice, diction and accents at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. I'm also an actor and solo performer, and I've worked extensively in theatre, TV and radio, with companies including the National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company and the BBC and Channel 4.
