On Saturday, we hosted the Senior Career in Banking & Technology event in London. A room full of professionals across industries, and graduates ready to upgrade, all there for the same reason - to hear what it really takes to grow at the highest levels in banking and technology.

Massive thank you to our guest speaker Vanessa Yiu - CTO for Group Technology Infrastructure at Deutsche Bank for the time, the honesty, and the wisdom she brought into the room. Hearing her speak so candidly about her own career journey, and what it’s taken to get to where she is, gave our attendees the honest perspective they’d been looking for. Vanessa spoke about the importance of deep technical expertise, adaptability, and problem-solving in a landscape being reshaped by AI - not staying in your comfort zone, but focusing on outcomes and continuous learning.

She also spoke openly about the realities of being a woman in tech, staying authentic and focusing on what you can control rather than what you can’t. That landed with so many people in the room.

The Q&A could have gone on for hours. Graduates asking how to stand out, professionals asking how to pursue growth opportunities, and where banking technology is heading next. Vanessa answered every question with warmth and clarity, and made space for people to walk away with real answers, not just inspiration.

Join us for a fireside chat with Vanessa Yiu - Chief Technology Officer for Group Technology Infrastructure at Deutsche Bank.
An afternoon for professionals building careers in Banking and Technology, a candid conversation with a technology executive who has spent over 23 years at the most senior levels at Goldman Sachs, UBS, and Deutsche Bank.

About Vanessa
Vanessa is the Chief Technology Officer for Group Technology Infrastructure at Deutsche Bank, where she leads technology strategy for the bank’s infrastructure platforms. She joined Deutsche Bank in November 2025 from UBS Group, where she served as Technology Fellow and Head of Core Engineering for their Group CTO division.
Prior to Deutsche Bank, Vanessa spent nearly two decades at Goldman Sachs in progressively senior engineering roles across application infrastructure, global enterprise platforms and architecture, and identity and access management.
Vanessa is a Fellow of The British Computer Society and holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge.

On Tuesday, our founder Thao Nguyen had the honour to serve as Chair of the Judging Panel at University of the West of Scotland Enterprise and Innovation Lab’s Innovation Challenge 2026 at UWS - London Campus, alongside fellow judges Luke Mitchell, Sian Stephens, Manesh Thankappan, PhD, SFHEA and Mohib Ali.
👏 Huge congratulations to all the students who took part. Pitching a venture is no small thing and this experience gave them a chance to put real business knowledge into practice - from market research and competitor analysis to shaping a value proposition that actually holds up under scrutiny.

The Innovation Challenge, alongside the Lab’s Idea Spark Sessions led by Dr Narayan Bhattarai, FHEA, CMBE,UKCGE Recognised ARS and Dr. Svetla Stoyanova-Bozhkova gave students the opportunity to apply their business knowledge in the real world, explore what they’re genuinely passionate about, sharpen the communication and teamwork skills that matter just as much in the workplace as they do in entrepreneurship - Self-discovery, Communication, and Career Essentials, the very pillars at the heart of The Journey Node.
