I’ve driven past these rows of vines countless times, so today it was lovely to finally stop & discover Malton Vineyard for myself 🍇

Local vineyards are becoming such a welcome addition to the countryside. We’re used to talking about eating & shopping locally, & now we can add drinking wine grown & produced just down the road to that list too. ❤️

If you regularly travel along the A64, you may well have spotted the vineyard on the hillside — I often find myself glancing over at the rows of vines as I pass. 🚙

Set on a south-facing slope with panoramic views across the Howardian Hills countryside, the vineyard is owned & run by Viv & Phil Clarkson, who began their winemaking journey in 2020. They designed & laid out the trellis system themselves before single-handedly planting an impressive 2,200 vines. 🪏

They’ve continued to develop the vineyard since, adding a further 500 Rondo vines in 2023. These red grapes will be used to create Musley Bank Pink, their very first sparkling wine, due to be ready in May 2027. 🥂

Thankfully, you don’t have to wait until then to sample what Malton Vineyard already has to offer. Their dry white Musley Bank, made from Solaris grapes, is available now — & having enjoyed a glass (or two!) myself this afternoon, I can confirm it was absolutely magnificent. Even better enjoyed overlooking the vines, chatting all things wine with Viv & Phil, with Steven the vineyard cat never too far away! 🍷🐈

You can pick up a bottle directly from the vineyard, Derventio Wines in Malton or Hunters of Helmsley. 🎉

Malton Vineyard is open to the public, so you can call in for a look around, take in those gorgeous views or book a private tour to learn more about the vines, the winemaking process & the story behind Musley Bank. 🌾

A great one to know about if you’re in the area — genuinely local wine, grown & produced just down the road, with a real story behind every bottle. 🍇🍷

We’ve struggled with some of our vineyard deliveries, drivers couldn’t find us and so left parcels with neighbours! Viv decided enough was enough and so got in touch with JS Graphixx. Jamie worked with Viv to create and install this rather dapper sign. No excuses now please delivery drivers!

Phew!! 😥 what a full day we’ve had, but look at the fruits of our labour. Our 2025 vintage is now bottled. Stood tall on the shelves at the moment to allow the corks to settle. We’ll lay them down after a week to ‘wet the cork’ and thereby preserve the integrity of the bottled wine. We’re taking orders now so please contact us via our email: [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you. Viv & Phil

Had a lovely day enjoying the weather and ticking off ‘to do’ list jobs in the vineyard. The flower buds are forming beautifully with less frost damage than I anticipated. Looking very promising. Oh, the keen eyed amongst you may spot a lady bird in one of the photos, I haven’t seen one like that before but it’s definitely welcome. 😀

Well what a day! We were contacted via our website to arrange a vineyard tour for a ‘car rally’. We were amazed when these three stunning cars arrived. The tour was put on hold for a short while so that Viv and I could check out the cars. Not sure that I’m the right size for them though! A great time was had by all. Can you name any of the cars?

One of the joys of spring time. Watching bud burst and the ‘greening’ of the vineyard begin. Time to apply the first spray of sulphur to remind the mildew that it’s not welcome in our vineyard!
