A bailiff at the door: how do you check who they are?
For England and Wales, GOV.UK advises asking for identification, the company’s name, a contact number and an itemised account of what is owed before paying or letting an agent in.
You can ask for identification and authorisation to be shown through a window or passed through the letterbox. The right verification route depends on the type of agent: a certificated-agent register, the High Court enforcement list, or the court concerned. Don’t assume every bailiff appears on the same register.
