Yesterday, two members of our security team were involved in a serious incident while working at a festival, involving teenagers armed with a knife.
During the incident, our officers were attacked and had their clothing slashed. Thankfully, neither officer suffered a knife injury, but the situation could very easily have had a far more serious outcome.
We want to recognise and thank our staff for the professionalism, courage and composure they showed in an extremely challenging and dangerous situation.
Incidents like this are also a stark reminder of why relevant, up-to-date training for security officers is so important. Those working on the front line can be faced with fast-moving, unpredictable situations, and regular training in areas such as conflict management, situational awareness, communication, emergency response and personal safety can make a vital difference.
Knife crime continues to have a devastating impact on individuals, families and communities. No security officer, member of staff or member of the public should have to face the threat of serious violence simply while going about their day.
We are extremely grateful that our team returned home safely, and we remain committed to supporting our officers and ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge, training and confidence needed to carry out their roles as safely and professionally as possible.
