If you were at our last Carrot Club meet-up at Oh Shoot! Plants Oh Shoot! Plants in Congleton, you might recognise this little guy.

Everyone who came along went home with a lovely plant, which is exactly what I love about our meet-ups. They’re not just about sitting around a table and networking. They become their own little experience, shaped by the independent business hosting us.

And this time, Nat made sure we all had something to take home.

So, if you were there, how’s your plant doing? Share a picture in the comments and let’s see who’s managed to keep theirs alive!

Our next Carrot Club meet-up is on 15th September at Share Your Story, where we’ll meet another brilliant independent business owner, Simon, and get an introduction to podcasting.

See the bio for the link and come along.

There’s a little extra technology hiding behind our posters.

That small NFC tag on the back means someone can simply tap their phone and be taken straight to the business behind the poster, or to our patch pages.

Or they can scan the QR code.

Two simple ways to turn a bit of real-world visibility into a chance for someone to discover the Spiky Carrot patch, the businesses involved, and the local businesses getting in front of real customers.

Scan or tap. The choice is yours.

My thoughts on the Spiky Carrot frames have changed so much recently.

When I first started, I saw them mainly as a way to give independent businesses real-world visibility.

But the more I’ve built Spiky Carrot, the more I’ve realised I’ve got something much more amazing than I first thought.

These frames aren’t just advertising space.

They’re becoming part of the Patch.

A physical reminder that there are independent businesses around us, opportunities to discover them, connect with them and support them.

Sometimes you start building something with one idea in mind, then along the way you realise it can become something much bigger.

That’s exactly what’s happened with these frames.

Maybe the frame was never really empty after all.

Thank you, , for your comment on our last post about the Carrot Club meet-up at Share Your Story.

You asked, “What’s the Carrot Club?”

I thought about replying there and then, but actually, Carrot Club is worth more than a quick reply in the comments.

So we thought we’d answer it properly.

Hopefully these slides give you a better idea of what the Carrot Club is, why we created it and what we’re trying to build with it.

And thank you for asking the question. It’s probably something we should have explained a little better before now.

Still wondering?

Come along to one of our meet-ups and see for yourself.

Our next Carrot Club meet-up is taking us behind the scenes at Share Your Story in Altrincham.

We’ll meet Simon, the owner, hear how he got started and discover where the idea for Share Your Story came from.

Then we’re heading into the amazing podcast studio at the back of the store, where Simon and his team will give us an introduction to podcasting.

You’ll get to see the studio, learn how it works, ask questions and get a feel for what goes into creating a podcast.

And of course, there’s time to meet other local business owners, have a proper chat and make some new connections.

A chance to discover a great independent business, meet the people behind it and experience something a little different.

Tuesday 15th September, 12pm to 1:30pm

Free for Carrot Club members
£17 for non-members

What a week.

We’ve officially welcomed our first four members to Spiky Carrot.

I’ve been quietly soft-launching the membership over the last few weeks, and if you’ve been to one of our meet-ups, there’s a good chance you’ve heard me talking about what we’re building.

So, it’s time to properly introduce the first four businesses to join us.

And this is what I love about it.

Being a member isn’t just about having your name on a website.

These businesses are now part of the wider Spiky Carrot patch, with opportunities to appear in our digital magazine, patch pages and local content, meet other independent business owners at Carrot Club meet-ups, and, where it makes sense, get real-world visibility through campaigns and our framed posters across the network.

It’s early days, but the patch is starting to grow.

And these four are the first businesses growing with us.

Welcome to Spiky Carrot.

It’s Friday, so let’s play a little game…

Can you guess where our new Spiky Carrot posters have been popping up?

Answers in the comments.

We’ve been putting our new designs out around the patch, but we’re not going to tell you where just yet.

Keep your eyes peeled, because we’ll be swapping more of the old posters over in the coming weeks.

There’s a reason for the change.

We wanted our posters to feel less like the usual “advertise here” signs you see everywhere and more like a recognisable part of the Spiky Carrot patch.

It reflects where we’re heading too. Spiky Carrot is becoming a local visibility network for independent businesses, helping businesses become more visible, more connected and more recognised locally.

So, where have you spotted them?

And if you see one out in the wild, let us know.

Fancy being part of the patch? Get in touch and we’ll tell you what we’re building.

We love sharing our latest visibility campaign, and this one is for the lovely sisters at Wray & Co Picture Framers.

Their poster is now up inside Oh Shoot! Plants, a brilliant jungle-filled venue that’s not only very popular, but also hosts all sorts of different events. That means their campaign gets seen by a real mix of people, in a place where there’s plenty of time to stop, look and take notice.

The strong colours and clear design really stand out too.

Want to check out their campaign? Have a look below.

And if you’ve got something you’d like framing or repairing, why not give the girls a call and see how they can help?

What a lovely Carrot Club meet-up at Oh Shoot! Plants in Congleton today.

A room full of brilliant independent business owners, meeting each other, sharing stories and getting a real feel for what Spiky Carrot is all about.

Nathan, who runs Oh Shoot! Plants, was an amazing host, and it was lovely having the girls from Wray & Co inside Best Jungle in Congleton sharing their stories with us.

Bringing these people together, hearing how they started their businesses and watching those connections happen in the room is honestly one of my favourite parts of building Spiky Carrot.

And of course, everyone went home with a lovely plant to remember the afternoon by.

I’m really starting to love doing these meet-ups.

This is what it’s all about. Real people, real businesses, and real connections.

If you’ve got FOMO or fancy coming along to the next one, have a look at the website for upcoming Carrot Club events before they sell out. The last two went fast!
