Leadership Tips
I read an article today that talked about 7 things that can improve your confidence as a leader. Here is my response and my tae on these seven points.

Recently the CEO at Apple noted that, "I think I'm a bit better today about compartmentalizing things and not taking everything so personally." Even a self-assured Leader recognizes there is always room for improvement. Which conversly means there are no perfect leaders. So do not lament your leadership capability, improve.

Successful, forward-thinking people experience the ups and downs of life just like anyone else -- but their thinking is different, both about themselves and the world around them.

Even at critical times this perspective helps them maintain confidence, even in the face of adversity. But they also adhere to a set of principles -- rules, if you will -- that help them take on challenges, opportunities, and everyday life situations.

The great news is that anyone can improve their confidence -- if they are willing to put forth the effort. Here are seven Tips of confident people that you can adopt today:

1. Set a clear direction - have a clear Plan
Confident people know their priorities and set audacious goals for themselves. Sir Edmund Hillary, the first mountaineer to summit Mt. Everest, said, "You don't have to be a fantastic hero to do certain things -- to compete. You can be just an ordinary chap, sufficiently motivated to reach challenging goals." Recognize that life passes by quickly, and do not waste a single day on goals that are not meaningful.
2. Invest in yourself
It is important to have faith in your own abilities. And it is important to back that faith with action. Too many people put their future in the hands of others. You must invest time and energy into learning so you can continually offer your best. You must invest money in your self. There is a very important concept in the lives of successful people, they have "Skin in the Game." What does that mean? They have something to lose. That prevents losing as an option. If a loss will hurt you, winning is much more important and you will make the investments needed in Time, Energy and Finance to WIN. You will make the sacrifices necessary to achieve your goals.

3. Face your fears
Being self-assured does not give a person a natural immunity to fear. But confident people do not let fear prevent them from accomplishing goals. Eleanor Roosevelt pointed to the "real danger" of running away from fear, saying, "If you fail anywhere along the line, it will take away your confidence. You must make yourself succeed every time. You must do the thing you think you cannot do." Often in business we deal with dissatisfied customers, disgruntled employees, and demanding bosses. We must face the guns and walk into the fire. It is not easy but people will respect it. I have found that the best business advances I ever make is when I amaze a customer by facing adverse situations. Solving a problem is often much more powerful than never having any.

4. Do not conform
Track and field star Florence Griffith Joyner, who was known for her willingness to be herself, said, "When anyone tells me I can't do anything, I am just not listening anymore." Stop relying on the approval of others. Instead, dig deep and gather that fortitude from within. Celebrate your individuality and your unique strengths, and tune out the naysayers. Everyone who says it can't be done, well they couldn't do it. But you can. You will. In SFI I am not embarrassed or ashamed that I work in an online opportunity. I am succeeding and I am running a real business.

5. Bounce back quickly
It takes a guts to rebound from tough experiences or even failure. Did you know Brian Acton was turned down for an engineering job at Facebook. He then co-founded WhatsApp which was sold to Facebook for $19 billion.

6. Let insults slide
Truly confident people look for value in criticism, but let insults roll right off. Some people may not want you to succeed and may try to tear you down. Do not let them.

7. Practice generosity
Self-assured people spend time thinking of how to make the world better. You must do more than "better yourself". That is too small a task. Change the world. Bill and Melinda Gates are among those signing the Giving Pledge to give most of their wealth away to philanthropic causes. Having a giving spirit will give you a healthy confidence boost and keep your own troubles in perspective. Start today. Start at home, in your business, Think of what would benefit your affiliate team. What could you give them?

Confidence is not an inborn trait, and it does not develop overnight. Even if you lack that self-assurance right now, you do not have to stay that way. You too can become more fearless and self-assured -- if you are willing to work at it.

WHO NEEDS A RETIREMENT PLAN?
By Pat Ashibuogwu
Business Consultant & CEO Aspazgold Business Support Services.

Retirement as an inevitable and very important event in life is worth looking up to with great expectations. Regrettably, just like death, this stunning reality is never ever given due attention by prospective retirees and the society in general. In present day Nigeria, workers are statutorily forced to retire after thirty five (35) years of service or by attaining the age sixty (60) (whichever comes first). This makes retirement appear to be restricted to only employees in regular jobs, whether public or private. But broadly speaking, retirement goes beyond that, it also includes self-employed and owners of any form of business outfit. In fact, everybody must look forward to retirement (whether a business owner or employee), therefore the need to plan for retirement is a general obligation.
Let’s look at it this way, apart from statutory regulations, retirement may be induced by unforeseen circumstances like accident or ill-health or by loss of employment, etc. In any of these cases, one may not enjoy the privilege of having to plan for the sudden exit from service. Above all, it must be noted that stamina diminishes as one grows older, implying that at later age one may no longer possess the capacity to perform as he used to during his prime age. All the same, whether statutory, voluntary, induced or forced, the need for every mature and active man or woman to plan for retirement cannot be overemphasised.
When thinking of retirement two questions that must be appropriately considered comes to mind:
1. When is the right time to start planning for retirement?
2. How do you plan for your retirement?
Before you answer any of the questions, I want to emphasise here that it is never too early to start planning for your retirement. In fact the best time to start is now. By the way, do you know that the capacity to determine when and how you want to retire resides in you and you alone? This is because it is your dream we are talking about here. The determining factor should be the picture of your golden years as you see it in your dream. Therefore, it is your duty to choose when and how to retire based on the scope of the envisaged lifestyle, and map out strategies on how to deploy your resources to actualise the dream. If you start early, chances are that you may have enough time and resources at your disposal to realise the retirement that you dream of having faster than expected.
The purpose of this piece is to create awareness and arouse consciousness about having a retirement plan. Retirement plan is an event in life that one may start at any age; the important thing is to have a target. The earlier you get there, the better for you. Gone are the days when workers rely on statutory employee pension scheme alone. We know of workers who retired and for many years have not been able to access their benefits; this calls for a back-up pension plan. Consult widely before you make your choice.
It is my belief that, going forward, you would understand that retirement plan is not only for the old or employees; but for all active men and women.
Coming next, we shall be talking about various types of pension plans.
