The Biggest Lesson Travel Gave Me! ✈️🌴☀️
From family package holidays… to Ibiza clubbing trips… to solo trips… to luxury holidays to St Lucia, Barbados, Mexico, and Europe… to living in the USA, Australia, Cyprus, Dubai, Spain & the UK — travel has shaped every chapter of my life.
In my 20s it became my career: cabin crew, then 6 years living in the USA, & training/working as a travel agent, then living in Sydney, Australia, overlooking Manly Beach, with trips across America and to Bermuda. I wasn’t just visiting places — I was living and working in them.
In my 30s & 40s, travel meant independence and adventure — moving back to the UK, working as a high street travel agent, working with TUI and Thomas Cook in Cyprus and Crete, solo trips, holidays with my kids, Las Vegas at 40, living and working in Dubai as a real estate agent on Palm Jumeirah… and later, a life-changing solo trip to visit friends in Spain, where I met my now husband. Two dates in, we moved in together — and I lived in Spain for nearly 5 years, and together 11 years now.
In my 50s, travel became about sharing life — our dream wedding on a super yacht in Gibraltar, wedding reception in Spain, our honeymoon in Barbados, working for Jet2, luxury trips to Mexico, Egypt, Cape Verde and more.
And now, in my late 50s, travel looks different again. With health and mobility challenges, I have to plan travel well, with airport assistance, careful hotel locations—but my love for travel hasn’t changed. In 4 weeks, I’m off to Thailand… even while I can hardly walk, waiting for 2 total hip replacements. Nothing will stop me!
The lesson?
Travel isn’t one thing. It changes as your life changes. Travel doesn’t have to look the same forever — it just has to fit the life you’re living now 💛✈️🌴
