Is a Jaffa Cake a cake or a biscuit? Apparently, when it comes to VAT, it really matters… 👀🍰**

A big congratulations to Steve Thomas from J Sweeney Accountants for taking home our Best 60 Seconds trophy at BNI Galaxy last week 🏆

Their presentation stood out by using the famous Jaffa Cake example to make the world of VAT and tax a little more interesting — and much easier to remember!

Jaffa Cakes are treated as cakes for VAT purposes, meaning they are zero-rated, whereas chocolate-covered biscuits are subject to VAT. A brilliant example of how understanding the details around tax can make a real difference.

And more importantly, it got everyone in the room listening, learning and probably thinking about Jaffa Cakes for the rest of the morning 😂

Last week, members of BNI Galaxy enjoyed a brilliant social evening together at Avatar dining 🍽️

It was a lovely opportunity to spend time together outside of the weekly meeting, continue building strong relationships and support a fellow member’s business at the same time.

These moments are a great reminder that BNI is about more than just business — it is about community, connection and championing each other wherever we can.

A fantastic evening a few Fridays ago supporting Menphys at their annual gala ❤️

It was great to come together and show our support for such an important cause and be part of a brilliant event raising money for Menphys, our charity of BNI Galaxy.

Team Galaxy as can see had a big attendance of members, friends and family 📸 with contributions made during the evening towards raffle tickets, prizes donated for the raffle, and auction prizes purchased 🙌

Events like this are a great reminder that business networking is not just about referrals and business growth, but also about supporting our local community and getting behind our charity who make such a huge difference to families 🙏
