This is all about the definition of success. So many don't actively consider what success means to them as an individual - they just passively accept what society dictates... i.e. the accumulation of as much wealth as possible / fame / power. All the time assuming that they'll be alive and healthy when they reach their goals, and that the people who matter will be waiting for them.

What about human connection, peace of mind, memorable experiences, meaningful relationships, pleasure, freedom?

Anyone who "grinds" for 20h a day and sleeps for the remaining 4 is in danger of actual real life completely passing them by.

What does success mean to you?

“I’m a perfectionist”.

When we hear this it’s often stated as a strength. But the reality is that perfectionism is fruitless, simply because perfect doesn’t exist. Therefore a perfectionist spends their time chasing the impossible: exhausting, and wasteful!

Perfectionism = frustration, stress, anxiety, dissatisfaction, fatigue.

Excellence, on the other hand, now that is achievable! Through graft, grit, practice, patience, focus - all traits that anyone can adopt.

Let’s forget perfection nonsense and aim for excellence instead!

Then decisions start getting harder to make and you lose confidence in your own judgement and ability...

That’s your sign that it’s time to pause and reflect. To get those goals and values off the shelf, dust them down, polish them up, and move forward in the right direction with clarity and confidence...
