It can be nerve-wracking outsourcing your work for the first time, especially when you're used to doing everything yourself.

Blogs are great for SEO...?

Yes, but...

A blog CAN be good for SEO, but only if it's done well. So if you're thinking of starting a blog, breaking your back to get a post out every week, or are embarrassed by your current blog that hasn't been updated for several years... here are some tips.

Write relevant and interesting content
What's relevant to your business? What will your potential customers find interesting and helpful? Guides on using your products, advice on relevant topics, behind the scenes glimpses... there are lots of topics you can cover, but don't just write whatever you feel like - make it relevant.

Check grammar and spelling
A blog littered with poor grammar and spelling can be off-putting and lose the trust of your audience. Remember to proof it (or get someone else to do it for you).

Optimise it for search
Use headings correctly, optimise your images, structure the page effectively, optimise your URL... There's lots you can do.

Add internal and external links
Internal links go to another page on your website - add them to strengthen site structure and guide users towards other helpful information and down the sales funnel.
External links go to other sites - add them to build trust and to help users explore topics further.

Include a Call to Action
What do you want the reader to do next? Don't forget a clear call to action to make it easy for them to take the next step.

Only do it if you have the resources
Now here's the key: a blog is great for SEO (and your business), but ONLY if you have the resource to do it properly and consistently. Whether that's your own time or someone else to manage it.

What are your thoughts on a business blog? Have you tried one? Are you thinking about it?

I work from home every day and rarely meet my clients face-to-face. So it's always nice to have a surprise run-in with one when I'm out and about.

Now, although Harriet wasn't there in person, it was nice to spot one of Cumberland Flower Farm's selfie flower frames at the Cumbria Nature Festival this weekend.

Beautiful, home-grown, seasonal flowers - they were the perfect addition to an event celebrating nature, wildlife, and sustainability.

Kick-off meeting for an exciting new project today: setting up a welcome email series for a client's potential customers.

My new client is a lovely Lake District business with a mailing list that's just... sitting there, really. New sign-ups get a few basic automated emails but there's room for improvement.

So we're going to:

✉️ Develop a welcome sequence that builds trust and moves subscribers towards signing up for a service
✉️ Design email templates that match the branding and style of this luxury business
✉️ Make use of lost leads so they don't just vanish – data will be collected to improve future experiences
✉️ Subscribers will receive regular, relevant emails to keep this company front-and-centre in their minds

It's been an intense but productive morning, but now it's time to sit back, enjoy some sun, and wrap up some end-of-month tasks. ☀️

(Excuse the state of the garden. I'm *really* trying to grow nice things, but it's not quite there yet).

I love a keyboard shortcut: get things done more quickly and save yourself a bit of repetitive strain injury from clicking too much!

Here are those that I find most useful - for both PC and MAC - and which I use on a daily basis.

Cumberland Flower Farm is a sustainable flower farm that sells beautiful, seasonal, British-grown flowers. Shortly after we met at the In-Cumbria Awards 2024 (where they won Best Green Business!), florist Harriet got in touch for help with her SEO.

In less than a year, we've seen some incredible results.

And it's an important bonus that every flower Harriet sells helps reduce reliance on foreign imported alternatives that come with a huge carbon footprint.

Running two businesses, ( Singing VA and SEO), as well as managing multiple clients on a daily basis, it's vital that my organisation and productivity is up there.

Some of my favourite tools, which I use on a daily basis, are:

1. ClickUp - for task management and liaising with my team.

2. Google Calendar - for arranging meetings, creating work schedules, and keeping on top of my agenda.

3. Keeper Security - for quick and secure access to all my own passwords, and my clients' passwords.

4. Google Drive - Storage and backup of all my documents so I can access them from my home office and on the go.

5. Google Chrome - Sound like an odd one? Because I work with multiple clients, I set up a different Chrome Profile for each. That means I have a quick and easy way to group most-used sites for each client, and to keep workflows clean and separate.

What's the number one productivity tool you can't live without?

Last year I took a bit of time off from performing, but this year I'm back to it once again in a really heart-warming musical called Come From Away. Here I'm talking a bit about the show and my character, Hannah.

If you happen to be in West Cumbria from the 11th to 14th of March, get a couple of people together a enjoy an evening out at the in Workington. We promise lots of laughs, some tears, and plenty of catchy tunes.

How can you reduce the impact your website has on the environment? Here are 5 quick and easy tips:

1. Reduce the size of images before uploading. Use a free tool like TinyJpg to quickly and easily do this.

2. Audit your plugins and extensions and try to reduce how many you're using. Uninstall any you don't use.

3. Transfer to a green web host like Krystal Hosting.

4. Reduce the use of heavy animations and videos.

5. Get rid of redundant content and pages.

Reducing the carbon footprint of your website is better for the environment and usually helps your website perform better too, improving user experience and SEO.
