Blogs are great for SEO...?
Yes, but...
A blog CAN be good for SEO, but only if it's done well. So if you're thinking of starting a blog, breaking your back to get a post out every week, or are embarrassed by your current blog that hasn't been updated for several years... here are some tips.
Write relevant and interesting content
What's relevant to your business? What will your potential customers find interesting and helpful? Guides on using your products, advice on relevant topics, behind the scenes glimpses... there are lots of topics you can cover, but don't just write whatever you feel like - make it relevant.
Check grammar and spelling
A blog littered with poor grammar and spelling can be off-putting and lose the trust of your audience. Remember to proof it (or get someone else to do it for you).
Optimise it for search
Use headings correctly, optimise your images, structure the page effectively, optimise your URL... There's lots you can do.
Add internal and external links
Internal links go to another page on your website - add them to strengthen site structure and guide users towards other helpful information and down the sales funnel.
External links go to other sites - add them to build trust and to help users explore topics further.
Include a Call to Action
What do you want the reader to do next? Don't forget a clear call to action to make it easy for them to take the next step.
Only do it if you have the resources
Now here's the key: a blog is great for SEO (and your business), but ONLY if you have the resource to do it properly and consistently. Whether that's your own time or someone else to manage it.
What are your thoughts on a business blog? Have you tried one? Are you thinking about it?
