“Fake it till you make it” - Whether you like it or not, it worked for me.

One of my key teachers in business said to me…

“Sometimes you take the deal and then figure out how you do it.”

That rung true for me.

It’s what I did at the beginning of my career.

Took on opportunities outside my comfort zone and experience.

And either smashed them out the park

Or let them smash me in the face.

Either way it was an experience.

The lessons I learnt from, I got better at.

Of course, there’s some logic to be implemented to this.

Truthfully.

Many people make as they go along.

Kind of like UK politicians right?

They run the country.

So why can’t we run with it too? 🤣

Sometimes in life a little bit of blagging is key.

But MAKE SURE you TURN UP.

Otherwise you’ll be known for a talker.

Not a walker.

But jokes aside.

Reminder, use this with LOGIC.

Did you know that McDonalds brand promise is…

“To provide customers with healthy, affordable meals at any time.”

Shocking right!?

That’s what a brand promise should NOT do!

LIE.

Or be inconsistent.

In the branding universe, promises are big deals.

They answer the question: "What does my brand promise to our audience?"

Usually, it’s a sentence or a small list, used internally to align what the consumer can expect across your products, services, and overall experience.

It's your daily mantra.

Helping to align team efforts and prevent ventures that stray too far from your brand’s essence.

A solid brand promise builds consistency and familiarity with your audience.

It builds a perception and expectation of your brand.

Which you of course have to honour and uphold.

More importantly, it helps you avoid over-promising and under-delivering.

And when done right, a strong and consistent brand promise can result in:

1. Improved experience and brand loyalty
2. Powerful brand differentiation
3. Increased brand equity

Remember, actions speak louder than words.

Your promise guides those actions.

Alex was an entrepreneur launching his startup.

He had enthusiasm and a product that “promised to revolutionize the industry”.

He was confident of making a splash.

But, his excitement led him into branding traps.

The first trap - Logo-before-legs syndrome.

Alex fell prey to the allure of a snazzy logo.

He threw some budget at a logo design from a guy on fiverr - Great start. 🙃

On his way with his logo, he stuck it all over his AI dog product, ALEXUR.

Alex decided it was time to market and sell it, he has his logo, he’s ready to conquer the world.

So without thought to his audience or strategy, he ran into the second and third mistake.

Ass-u-ming-Audience - usually when you’re making an “ASS of U” - and P*ss-Poor-Positioning.

The result? 🤔

He found himself shouting into the void, or 'Ass-u-ming Aftershock'.

Alex realized that putting the cart (or the logo, in this case) before the horse can lead to a case of, well, f*cking ya shizzle up.

You might have a striking logo, but without understanding your brand's values and identity, it will not resonate with your audience.

Realising his product wasn't getting the expected interest, Alex paused to reflect.

In his eagerness to sell, he had assumed its value would be self-evident.

He overlooked the importance of positioning his brand and targeting the right audience.

Even the most innovative product or service can't stand alone without a solid brand.

And without proper market research or understanding of your audience, it’s hard to build brand awareness let alone sell your products!

But to summarise, the BIGGEST mistake of all NO-BS.

Not having a clear brand strategy.

After mistakes, Alex understood the importance of a brand strategy.

He'd been building his business like an architect without drawings.

The brand was a 'Strategic Shipwreck', not because the strategy was bad.

But because there was none!

He needed to understand the 'why' before the 'what' and the 'how'.

Remember, brand strategy isn't just a step in the branding process.

It's the backbone that supports each phase to a journey smoother, more impactful, and more cost-effective!

Don’t do an Alex with your brand! 😂

Hand on heart, NO BULLSH*T - How many of you can say you truly UNDERSTAND your target audience?

When I say UNDERSTADING your audience.

That does NOT mean knowing their age, gender, income and all those basic BS things

That’s merely the tip of the iceberg.

The real essence of understanding your audience lies in digging deeper.

Understanding...

🟡 Their pain points

🟡 Their habits

🟡 Their values

🟡 Their motivations

🟡 Their decision-making process

And identifying:

⭐️ The challenges they face in their daily life or in their business. (again like this ad did) recognizing

⭐️ Their overall priorities

⭐️ The result or experience they want

This approach goes beyond the superficial to truly understand their desires and what they connect with on a more personal and emotional level.

This deeper understanding allows you to align your brand, business, product or service, marketing etc…

And this results in more meaningful and engaging experiences for them, which ultimately benefits your brand.

As a final summary.

Understanding your audience and connecting with them on a deeper level is one of the strongest ways to be first brand that pops up in the audiences mind.

Brand positioning is a major pain in the bum businesses face.
But here's how I tackle it:

A BIG problem your brand may face is not knowing its place in the world.

And worst of all, not knowing your place in your audiences MIND.

It’s called UNDEFINED brand positioning.

And a badly positioned brand can suffer from problem such as:

❌ Lack of brand recognition
❌ Burning through budgets marketing with poor ROI
❌ Inconsistent brand messaging
❌ Confused target audience
❌ Difficulty in establishing brand loyalty
❌ Low perceived value

All of these problems eventually lead to stagnation in growth.

Truth is, this is a common Pain In The A*s (PITA) for startup-medium sized brands.

As you’re currently still establishing yourself in the market.

But unsolved and continuing without clear positioning means you’ll have no differentiation.

Which eventually means you’ll end up blending in with the crowd.

Very, bloody quickly.

BUT.

Every PITA has a cream to ease up pain and make it all go away.

So here’s my prescription.

Through Brand Strategy, we define your brand’s positioning and solve your PITA by:
