One of the most valuable things you can do as a business owner is listen when people tell you what’s not working.

Over the last few months, I’ve been speaking to members of my female founder community and asking for honest feedback. Here’s what you said:

1. The WhatsApp chats had become overwhelming and time-consuming
2. You didn’t know when new resources, masterclasses and toolkits had been added.

It was incredibly useful feedback and it gives me the chance to open the community - and make it even better.

The community is packed with resources covering launches, email marketing, SEO, Meta ads, storytelling, PR, content creation and so much more.

The challenge wasn’t creating enough content. The challenge was making it easy for you to access, and give you a space for questions without over overwhelmed.

So that’s exactly what we’ve been working on.

We’re simplifying the experience, improving communication and making it easier than ever for members to get value from their membership.

When the doors reopen on 1st July, you’ll also notice that the membership price will be increasing to better reflect the value inside and attract female founders who are serious about implementing what they learn.

92 applications in 24 hours 😳

I’ve spent today working through the first round of applications for our Creative Marketing Executive role at Aromatherapy , and I wanted to share my initial thoughts and red flags:

❌ A ChatGPT-written email application: If you can’t tell me why you’re right for the role in your own words, it’s - no from me)

❌ Agency owners:
I need someone who wants to immerse themselves in one brand, not juggle ten.

❌ No portfolio attached:
This role is heavily creative. I need to see your eye for design, storytelling and brand building.

❌ Emails asking for more information before sending a CV:
I genuinely don’t have time to be diving deep into conversations before I even know you’re right for us.

I know that sounds a little cut-throat, but when you’re hiring for a role that’s going to help shape your brand, you have to be.

Btw There are some brilliant applications in there already!

Next step is setting a small creative task for everyone who makes the shortlist so I can see their storytelling skills, creative thinking and understanding of brand marketing in action.

Wish me luck. I’ve never actually hired like this before.

Instagram has just confirmed that skip rate is the biggest ranking factor for reach.

Which means if people scroll away in the first 3 seconds of your Reel… your video is probably going to flop

When you post a Reel, Instagram shows it to a small group of people first. If a high percentage skip… Instagram takes that as a sign the content isn’t engaging.

If people keep watching? It pushes it further.

So if you can master the first 3 seconds…
you will grow.

how do you actually make people pause?
I always think about 4 things:

Lighting:
Super basic, I know. But dark, dull footage gets skipped fast. Bright, clean visuals instantly feel more professional and engaging.

Movement:
Movement catches the eye. Pouring coffee. Opening packaging. Walking into frame. Camera movement. Hands doing something. Static shots are harder to hook with.

Sound:
This could be trending audio, a strong voiceover opening, satisfying sounds, music with energy - anything that creates immediate atmosphere.

Text:
The right on-screen text gives people a reason to stay.
A hook. A statement. A curiosity gap.

If you overwhelm the senses slightly in those first few seconds - movement, sound, text, visuals - people almost have to pause and process what they’re seeing.

If people aren’t buying your products, it’s probably because people don’t feel connected to your brand yet.

Here’s 5 BTS habits to build that connection:

➡️ Brand story
“I started [brand name] because…”
(This is your hook. Your why is what makes people care.)

➡️Wins (big or small)
“Today we hit 100 orders…”
(Let people celebrate with you — they’ll feel part of it.

➡️Fails (be honest)
“I messed this up and here’s what I learned…”
(This builds trust fast.)

➡️Come with us
“Come on set with us today…” / “Packing orders with me…”
(People love to feel involved in the process.)

➡️Founder-led content
Just you, talking. No overthinking. A great example of this is
