Like others in the community, we are concerned by this project and the massive impact on the town. We have already been contacted by businesses directly affected by the works who are concerned about the impact on them, but we are seeking feedback from other members across the town. Lucy is attending the Scottish Water consultation about the project on Thursday, so can take any feedback to that.

Community leaders have warned that a £3 million project could plunge Nairn into gridlock.

A new heritage trail for Nairn, took a step forward this week, when Nairn BID manager, accompanied several different representatives from across the town on a walkthrough of what the new trail might include.

The trail will replace and augment Nairn’s heritage interpretation boards and create a Heritage Trail, backed up by online resources and interactivity. The project is designed to help visitors to the area learn more about Nairn’s heritage, while providing local people a sense of ownership and input into the way in which the town’s heritage is presented.

There was representation from: Nairn Museum, Keeping Nairnshire Colourful, Nairn Ceilidh Group, Nairn River Community Council, NICE, Nairn Common Good Fund, Green Hive, Nairn Yarnbombers. These groups were led by Make Things Happen who are leading the contract.

Nairn BID has invested in a branded Visit Nairn gazebo and it's available for BID members to use for free and for others to use for a small charge. We were delighted to let it be used for a recent music event at the Links! We think it looks pretty cool. Unless booked out before, it's next outing will be at Wheels of Nairn on the Links on Saturday, September 19.

A great turnout for the community litter pick yesterday which is organised by Nairn BID with huge support from Green Hive. The litter picks started in a response to the fact the Nairn BID felt the service from the Council was lacking. Our team is in regular contact with the relevant departments at Highland Council and we are working with them to ensure Nairn is kept, clean and tidy. There are issues that still need addressing, but progress is happening.

Yesterday the total waste collected was 29.65kg made up of:

General waste: 14.50kg
Plastic 3.95kg
Cardboard 4.95kg
Metal 0,06kg
Glass 5.65kg
The total waste collected so far this year is 131kg.

Thanks to everyone who came along to help. The next tidy up will be on Wednesday, August 26 at 10am. Meet at the Seaman's Hall.

Nairn was featured in this article and Karen our chairwoman used the opportunity to raise the issue of street cleaning once again. As we have said before, the Nairn BID team are regularly on the phone and sending emails to Highland Council to take them to task over the fact that we don't feel they are doing their job. We have even taken matters into our own hands and carry out monthly litter picks which have recently included weeding. We will not let this matter drop.

Our next litter pick is this Wednesday from 10am to midday. It would be great to have more people, so we can cover more ground. Meet the Seaman's Hall if you are keen.

The overall feel of business leaders in the town is very positive, but they all point towards the same issues.
