So I've become distracted.....

After seeing the Scale7 models and some other O gauge locos at my clubs open day, I have got thoroughly distracted and this has somehow arrived at home.

I have been modelling in N gauge for the best part of 20 years and whilst I have begun a modern GWR mainline scene, I've found a new appreciation for O gauge and so I've decided to dabble. I'm sure many other modellers can relate to having far too many projects on the go at one time, so we'll see where this journey takes me.

The beginnings... a layout depicting a section of the modern GWR line. Big build ahead but a number of the boards are nearly complete and work has begun on the N brass gantries prior to working out exact track positioning. The layout will be a roundy round type and I've settled on a 11ftx4ft footprint, the main modelled section being 6ft by just 9 inches. More to follow soon....

The new project continues with the first two of six boxes complete. I find it very satisfying watching the hard work start to reassemble a layout. Still lots to do!

Only two years after getting the Class 800 for my wedding present that I'm finally starting the detailing on it. Thanks to for the destination board decals, they really help bring the model to life. The first subtle wash of frame dirt has also been added to this end car. 4 more to go before I plan to weather the roof, bringing down the silvers and whites to a more used weathered look. Going to make this subtle as I think this will mirror the real thing more.

47035 sits at the wharf awaiting its next duty at Meldon West. This is a Farish model that has been extensively adjusted and re-built. One of the adjustments was to lower the body on the chassis, which I think you'll agree, makes a huge difference to the realism of the model.

Haven't posted a picture from Meldon West for while so here's 08 856 shunting some empties into the yard. The trucks are from Peco, re-wheeled with Farish replacement sets.

The buildings in the background are all scratchbuilt apart from the Ratio chimney and water tower. Buildings are built from plasticard, some plain, some textured and all are hand painted and weathered.

Class 37 691 is pretty much finished with the details finished on the buffer beam at No1 end. I will be entering this into the yearly modelling competition at my club tomorrow evening.

Lots of work has gone into this model over the last two years. The decoder programming needs a few tweaks but this model is fast becoming one of my favourites.

No55 Stepney in 2mm finescale is coming together. The wheels have now been added and quartered. One small adjustment to make, then onto fitting the motor gears and DCC chips. Really loving the way this project is looking.

Picking out the small details on Stepney with some brass paint this evening. Adding this to the window surrounds, valves and pipework as per the prototype is really helping bring her to life.

This model Stepney is booked to appear at the Basingstoke Model Railway Exhibition on the 11th and 12th March. Albeit as a static display on the club stand, but it'll be fully painted up prior to weathering and displaying the 2mm finescale chassis and scratchbuilt footplate. I'm hoping it's first public running with be Railex in May.
