In our Specialist Rare Ceramics auction this November, we are honoured to be auctioning off a private collector's & Co. Intarsio Ware.
The inception of the initial Intarsio range can be traced back to the late 1890s in , Stoke-on-Trent and credited to .
First, the initial transfer printed was applied onto a bisque-fired base. Then, the design would come to life through the skilful hands of artists who painstakingly hand-enamelled the piece with under-glaze colours. The final step involved dipping the piece in an earthenware glaze before subjecting it to firing, resulting in the characteristic glazed finish.
This creative venture continued its journey when Walter Slater succeeded Rhead as the art director in 1905. As the artistic landscape evolved, circa 1910 witnessed the introduction of a fresh series of Intarsio ware, showcasing contemporary design elements.
Rhead's "Intarsio," stands as one of Wileman & Co.'s most extensive and beloved ranges. This collection encompasses an array of exquisite pieces including Vases, Tea Caddies, Tea Pots, Jugs, To***co Jars, and more.
