💡 How to move Beyond Grants by building diversified income through trading, memberships, and commissioning

⚖️ How to choose the Right Legal Structure - CIC, Charity, or Company, and what each really means for your future growth

One registration gives you access to all three live sessions, plus full recordings to watch back anytime.

📅 Starts Thursday 16th July 2026

Social Enterprise Day is shaped as much by the people who contribute to it as by the programme itself. Each year, some of the most meaningful moments come from lived experience, practical insight, and honest reflection from those working at the heart of social change.

We’re looking for people who can help explore what it really means to take purposeful, grounded action in complex times. You might be a founder who has built something sustainable against the odds, a sector expert with practical tools to share, or a community leader who understands what it takes to embed lasting change. Funders, collaborators, and researchers are also very welcome — thriving is something we can only do together. 🩵

Whether you’d like to give a talk, join a panel, or host a workshop, this is your opportunity to share your insights with an audience of social entrepreneurs, leaders, and changemakers from across the region.

We are particularly interested in contributions that speak to the realities of this work, including:

• Building sustainable income streams within social enterprises
• Systems change in practice — what it looks like on the ground
• Leadership, wellbeing, and preventing burnout
• Community-led innovation and local solutions
• Collaboration across sectors and place-based partnerships

Every year, Social Enterprise Day is a chance to come together and celebrate the organisations and individuals using business as a force for good. Here in the North East, it has become a space where changemakers can connect, recharge, and think bigger about what’s possible.

And we’re really pleased to share that it’s back for 2026.

This year we’re focusing on something many social entrepreneurs tell us they struggle with; not just surviving, but finding ways to truly thrive. Nationally, only around one in three businesses make it to their fifth birthday, and our own review of North East CIC data shows survival rates in the North East are much the same. Too many organisations risk burning out before their impact has time to take root.

At the same time, much of the support available is designed either for very new start-ups or for fast-growing enterprises. That leaves a gap in the middle, where most social enterprises sit; working day in, day out to deliver impact, but perhaps without the right support to build resilience for the long term.

That’s why this year’s theme is... Change in Action

In a world full of big challenges, we aren’t trying to solve everything at once. Instead, we’re focusing on purposeful, values-driven action, building sustainable foundations, and protecting the wellbeing of our leaders.

From Civil Service to leading a charity breaking cycles of domestic abuse 💙

A brand new episode of Chats with Changemakers is out today. 🎧

In this episode, Kate Duffy speaks with Catherine Marchant, CEO of Impact Family Services, a charity supporting adults, children and young people affected by domestic abuse across local communities.

What began as a short-term role in the charity sector became a long-term mission for Catherine, focused on prevention, early intervention, and helping families rebuild and break cycles of abuse.

In this episode, Catherine shares:

🩵 Her journey from the Civil Service into charity leadership

🩵 Why breaking the cycle of domestic abuse takes prevention, education and long-term support

🩵 The realities of leading a small charity in a challenging funding landscape

🩵 How income diversification and partnerships help sustain vital community services

🩵 The importance of workplace support and training around domestic abuse

🩵 Lessons learned about leadership, resilience, and listening to yourself

This is a powerful and honest conversation about leadership, community impact, and the life-changing work happening within small charities every day.

At Junction Point CIC, a lot of our work comes back to one simple belief: with the right support, people and organisations can create meaningful change. 🩵

Over the years, we’ve worked with changemakers at all different stages, from people exploring early ideas, to established organisations looking to grow their impact. And while every journey is different, the support people need often connects back to the same core areas.

That’s what led us to develop our four pillars:

🩵 Ignite
Sparking curiosity, clarity and confidence for purposeful action.

🩵 Equip
Providing training, skills, knowledge and networks to strengthen social impact.

🩵 Connect
Helping people navigate and access the wider business support ecosystem.

🩵 Champion
Removing barriers so changemakers can thrive, lead and create impact.

These pillars shape how we design programmes, deliver support, build partnerships and show up for the communities we work with.

Because creating change isn’t just about having a good idea, it’s about having the confidence, tools, opportunities and support systems to turn that idea into something sustainable and impactful.

For us, these pillars are more than words. They reflect the role we want to play in helping changemakers move from idea to action, and from action to lasting impact. 💙

04/06/2026

In this episode of Chats with Changemakers, host Kate Duffy spoke with Warren Milburn, founder of The Million People Project, a bold social enterprise working to tackle digital poverty by refurbishing and redistributing laptops to people who need them most.

Warren reflects on the scale of the challenge, the reality of building momentum over time, and the importance of continuing to grow the project through new partnerships, including international work now expanding into South Africa.
