Behind many cluttered homes is someone carrying far more than “stuff”
One of the most powerful things about decluttering work is lifting the heavy load people have carried silently for years.
Recently, we uncovered some of my client’s old journal entries about living with clutter. With her permission, I wanted to share part of it because I know many people will recognise these feelings.
“Clutter. Even the word sounds messy.
That’s how it feels living with clutter, mess and stuff everywhere.
People say, ‘Just break it down into smaller amounts.’ Of course I know that. But knowing and doing are two completely different things.
It means decisions. What goes? What stays? What do I do with the things I part with?
So many decisions.
It’s like living with another presence in the house. A dark cloud hanging over us all the time.
I feel ashamed. I avoid inviting people over. I make excuses. I’ve lost confidence.
Getting our home back feels impossible.
I am overwhelmed.And I need help.”
These words were written almost 10 years ago.
Today, my client no longer feels that way, as together we are tackling her home room by room, step by step.
If you recognise yourself in these words, you are not alone — and know it is okay to ask for help. 💛
