You might know your trade inside out, love working with your clients, and have big ideas for where you want to take things...

That doesn’t mean you also have to love:

Friday afternoon tip that takes 10 minutes and saves your Monday.

Before you knock off today, grab a pen and answer three questions:

What got done this week?
What didn't, and why?
What's the first thing I'm doing on Monday?

That's it. Write it down and leave it where you'll see it.

Monday morning you'll know exactly where to start, instead of spending the first hour with a coffee wondering what on earth you were in the middle of.

I've done this every week for years. It's the most boring habit I've got and the one I'd least want to give up.

Anyone else do something like this, or is Friday afternoon strictly a tools-down situation?

I'm Michelle, I run MB Business & Design from Northamptonshire, and I spend my days sorting out the bits of other people's businesses they never get round to.

Here's what I can help you with:

✓ Admin and operations support, including the jobs that have been sat there for months

Every business owner I talk to has the same questions going round in their head. The bit that trips people up is knowing where to actually start.

That's normal, by the way. Doesn't mean you're bad at running your business, it means you're too close to it to see what's actually eating your time.

Nine times out of ten it's not one big problem. It's a handful of small ones that have been left because there's never a good moment to sort them.

This is how I actually approach it with clients. Work out what's costing you time, work out what can be handed over, find support that fits how you work, and start with one task rather than trying to overhaul everything at once.

Fill in the blank for me, I'm curious.

I'll go first with my guess. It's getting home after a ten hour day on site and then having to sit down and do quotes, chase invoices and reply to customers who want to know if you can squeeze them in on Tuesday.

Nobody went into the trades because they loved paperwork, you went into it because you're good at the job. The trouble is the business side doesn't go away, and it tends to land on the kitchen table at 9pm.

I spent years working in construction and transport, so I know how much of running a business happens after the tools go down. It's a big part of why I do what I do now.

If you read that list and thought, wow that's me, then we need to talk.

Most of the business owners I work with aren't disorganised, they're full. Full diaries, full inboxes, full to-do lists, with barely a gap to breathe let alone get stuck into the work they actually love.

A bit of proper support doesn't mean handing everything over. It means letting go of the two or three jobs that eat your time so you can get back to the work you're actually good at, the reason you started this in the first place.

Not everyone needs a full website. A lot of people who come to me want somewhere decent online, a page that looks the part and does the job, without the price tag or being told it'll take six months to build.

So from today, 7th September, until the 21st, I'm running a flash sale on full landing pages. £199, normally £349. Does basically the same job as a full website for most people, gets you found, gives people somewhere to click through to, stops you looking like you don't exist online.

Ten days, then it's back to full price.

One thing to flag, domain and hosting are on you to sort, I just build the page.
