We're always striving to keep things simple at ZEN Coaching because we see how the smallest changes in behaviour can result in huge positive changes in outcomes.

These suggestions are a mixture of the body language you display and the content and focus of the conversation itself. Generally, we tend to concentrate too much on how we like a conversation to proceed and forget the person in front of us may have different priorities.

Some simple tips to get your team engaged and motivated. People are often surprised by number 3 - brainstorming individually first before sharing ideas as a group is in fact TWICE as effective as brainstorming in a group immediately. Why? Well, some more introverted members of the team will be able to think about their suggestions without the pressure of the audience and it mitigates the biases associated with hierarchy or social standing. Also, this method provides a formal mechanism for all team members to be given an opportunity to share their ideas.

Always great to be back in the city at Convex Insurance last week running their graduate program again. What a delightful, thoughtful group who will no doubt do very well in their careers.

Throughout the week we looked at first impressions, conflict resolution, presentation skills and much more to give them a grounding in the skills they'll need in the years to come.

Beware the "cultural fit" mantra when hiring.
This paragraph from the HBR article below sums it up perfectly:

"Finding the right people is also not a matter of “culture fit.” What most people really mean when they say someone is a good fit culturally is that he or she is someone they’d like to have a beer with. But people with all sorts of personalities can be great at the job you need done. This misguided hiring strategy can also contribute to a company’s lack of diversity, since very often the people we enjoy hanging out with have backgrounds much like our own."
