Today I attended the British Tourism and Travel Show at the NEC on behalf of the Nottinghamshire Heritage and Tourism Network. Accompanied by Ade Andrews, we met with tour operators, travel groups, and hotel representatives to promote Nottinghamshire as a county of Legends and Literacy. We collected a range of materials and will review the documents and provide a detailed report of our discussions and observations in due course.

Since the Visit East Midlands project launched in September 2024, we’re keen to understand how widely it has been heard about within our heritage and tourism community. Do organisations feel well informed about initiatives like this?

We are exploring whether the Nottinghamshire Heritage & Tourism Network should take on a stronger role in gathering and sharing information about regional projects. Your feedback will help us shape the support we provide to the sector.

Claire Ward, Mayor of the East Midlands, launched her Visit East Midlands project at Chatsworth in Derbyshire today (Monday).

Our Story, Our Way! The Nottinghamshire Heritage and Tourism Network has been busy engaging with councils and support organisations to ensure our heritage gets the recognition it deserves. Thanks to brilliant sites, organisations and individuals like Pleasley Pit Trust, Nottingham Civic Society, North Leverton Windmill, Mary Potter Centre, Watson Fothergill Walk, Ezekiel Bones Tours, Hucknall Flight Test Museum, The Bendigo Heritage Project, Beeston Canalside Heritage Centre, Nottingham Q***r History Archive, and Game Workshop Museum & Events, we're already making a difference.

But we want to make our story even more powerful, told our way, by us. If you’re part of Nottinghamshire’s heritage, join us and help shape how our history is celebrated. Let’s keep growing together!

British Travel & Tourism Show

We’re attending the British Travel & Tourism Show in March on a fact‑finding mission to learn more about tour operations, sector best practice, and what’s happening across the UK. We’d love to take your stories, examples, and practical insights to the event — case studies, visitor offers, partnership ideas, marketing approaches, or operational challenges are all welcome.

Please send contributions or brief notes to [email protected] and tell us if you’d like us to raise a specific question or highlight your site.

Nottinghamshire Heritage & Tourism Network – New Year Newsletter

Welcome to our first newsletter of the year! As we step into a new chapter, we’re eager to connect with even more heritage sites and continue the valuable work started by the Nottinghamshire Heritage Forum. Over the past year, our efforts to build relationships with groups and support organisations across the county have laid strong foundations. Our aim remains clear: to create a thriving network that everyone can take pride in.

During the past year, we contributed to the Destination Management Plan consultation led by EMCCA, highlighting some persistent challenges faced by heritage and tourism sites within Nottinghamshire. These issues include limited transport options for staff and visitors, insufficient communication with authorities and support groups, and a lack of information-sharing about upcoming events in the county.

We were delighted to attend the British Travel and Tourism Show at the NEC, which offered a fantastic showcase of attractions and initiatives across the country. We’re looking forward to attending again this year and would love to hear from you—what would you like us to explore or report back from this event? Your input helps us make the most of these opportunities for our network.

Our team also attended the Museum and Heritage Show in London, where we made invaluable contacts within the sector. Building on this momentum, we’re pleased to announce we’re working closely with Heritage Open Days this year to further support Nottinghamshire’s heritage scene.

Now is the perfect time to get involved and make your mark in Nottinghamshire’s heritage and tourism scene. Join our network today to connect with fellow organisations, share knowledge, and access exclusive opportunities that will help you flourish. Simply reach out via email or visit our website, and let’s work together to celebrate and promote the county’s rich history and vibrant visitor attractions.
