Training budgets get cut because the return is assumed to be soft. It's not soft. It's just measured in the wrong place.

The ROI doesn't show up in the training line. It shows up in scrap, rework, audit outcomes, and customer retention.

£4,500 saved per person trained. That's the figure that answers the budget question.

The mechanism is straightforward: fewer defects → less rework → less scrap → smoother audits → contracts retained.

We won't pretend the journey is comfortable. Finding out what your team can and cannot do can be hard. It's considerably less hard than finding out from a customer.

You cannot feel static below 3,000 volts. Modern components die at 50 volts.

That gap is the entire problem.

The event that kills the part is silent. Nobody notices it happening.

The worst failure mode isn't the component that dies on the bench. It's the "walking wounded": weakened parts that pass tests, ship, and fail months later in an aircraft or race car.

Controlling it requires detail:

Grounding, wrist straps, Electrostatic Protective Areas. Dissipative shielding in transport. Ionisers for insulators. Regular monitoring. Working to ANSI/ESD S20.20.

Every control depends on people understanding why, not just following rules.

Sending someone on a course does not make them competent. It makes them trained.

Those are not the same thing, and confusing them is how organisations end up with a wall of certificates and a scrap rate that has not moved.

Competency is repeatable output. It comes from three things:

Education.
The formal training. Roughly ten per cent of the knowledge needed to do the task. Exposure.

Real world application, under real conditions, with real consequences.
This is where most of the learning happens.

Experience.

What education and exposure become once they have compounded.
That ten per cent figure is not an argument against training. It is an argument against treating training as the finish line.

The course gives someone the framework.

What turns the framework into competence is applying it, being corrected, and applying it again.

Which is why the useful question is not "have they been trained?" It is "can they do it consistently, and how do you know?"

If you cannot answer the second part, that is the gap worth closing first.

Tough weekends are part of racing, but true champions always push through! 🏁

It was a frustrating weekend at Croft for Árón Taylor-Smith Racing and the team. Despite fighting hard in every session and making some bold strategy call, like charging through the pack from the pit lane in Race 1, lady luck just wasn't on our side. Race 3 had huge potential, but an unavoidable opening-lap contact sadly cut the comeback short.

Croft may be in the rearview mirror, but the drive and determination never stop.

What a weekend at Donington!

The Marq-One team was trackside to support Árón Taylor-Smith, and it completely lived up to expectations with Aron delivering a season’s best points haul on race day.

The Toyota Corolla was on the money all weekend, giving a genuine shot at fighting for podiums. While it would have been amazing to snag that silverware in Race 3, we are over the moon with the overall result for the team. It’s arguably one of the most rewarding turnarounds yet, proving that all the relentless work behind the scenes is paying off.

There really is no better feeling than seeing that progress translate on track. Huge shoutout to the entire team and everyone pushing behind the scenes - on to the next one! 🏁🔥
