I am currently supporting St Helens Borough Council to review their domestic abuse survivor engagement, and as part of this work we are looking to hear from those with experiences of domestic abuse.

There's the option to either complete a survey, or attend an online session (or both).

There's also a professional survey for those who work in domestic abuse or domestic abuse adjacent services - please let me know if you would like the link for this.

It's national co-production week. I had planned to write a series of posts (or rather, co-produce a series of posts) but time is not my friend at the moment.

However, one thing I've really noticed lately is the number of people who say they're co-producing when actually they're consulting or co-designing. It's not a bad thing to be at this stage of the co-production ladder (in fact, sometimes it's better) but it does concern me when people misunderstand what co-production is, or over-inflate what they are doing as it leaves those with lived experience who are involved feel like the engagement is tokenistic.

Co-production relies on people doing things in equal partnership. If people with lived experience are not paid the same as others, or if they're represented in your employed staff team, or are not involved in delivering the work in any way, then you're not co-producing.

If you want to learn more below is a video from Scotland that explains what coproduction is and why it's so important. https://lnkd.in/eKnuvhaK

As part of my work with the Violence Abuse & Mental Health Network I co-ordinate a Lived Experience Advisory Group. They’re undertaking a completely co-created piece of research looking at what trauma means to those with lived experience of violence/abuse and mental ill-health

If you’d like to take part the survey takes approximately 5-15 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous:

Thank you for your interest in our survey. The Violence, Abuse & Mental Health Network (vamhn.co.uk) was set up to research the relationship between violence, abuse, and mental health. At the beginning of the Network, we ran a consultation run by people who had experienced violence and/or abuse....
