I spoke to a coach last week who told me he’d paid £75k for a year’s coaching with an executive coach. I also know other coaches who’ve invested tens of thousands of pounds in themselves through 1-2-1 coaching and various programmes. I just can’t comprehend spending that much personally (for one, I don’t have that kind of money!), but to them it represents huge value because they get so much out of it and it's a big return on investment.
Which got me thinking….when hiring somebody to help you with your business or a specific area of your life, it’s easy to fall into the trap of equating value solely with monetary compensation.
However, the essence of value extends far beyond the digits that leave your bank account. True value lies in the transformative impact of a service or job, the doors it opens and the opportunities it enables.
Think about this - you hire someone to perform a task or provide a service, you're not just paying for their time and expertise. You're investing in the potential they unlock, the problems they solve, the tasks they alleviate, the freedom they offer and ultimately, the growth of your business! The true value of a job lies in the ripple effect it creates; the dominoes it sets in motion.
Let's take the example of hiring a personal trainer. Yes, you're paying for their guidance during workout sessions, but the real value goes beyond the hourly rate. It lies in the healthier lifestyle they help you achieve, the confidence they instil, and the long-term well-being they support. Their value isn't confined to the gym; it permeates every aspect of your life.
So, the value of a job often extends beyond the immediate transaction. It reverberates through communities, economies, and even generations.
Value is not a static thing measured solely in currency. It's dynamic, multifaceted, and deeply personal. It's about the doors opened, the burdens lifted, and the lives touched.
So, the next time you assess the worth of a job or service – either a job you’re looking to fill or a job you do that you are offering, look beyond the price tag.
Consider their insights, their knowledge, their skills, their experience, their hours, months even years of training and investment in themselves and how they can bring all of that to you to help you transform your life or business.
That's where the true value lies.
