Every extra day of moisture left in a property can mean more damage, more disruption and potentially higher claim costs.

After water damage, a property should never be considered dry just because the walls, floors or other surfaces feel dry. Moisture can remain trapped beneath flooring, behind walls and within building materials long after the visible water has gone.

For insurers and loss adjusters, early intervention and controlled drying can help reduce the risk of secondary damage, including mould growth, damaged plaster, warped timber and flooring failure.

ServiceMaster Restore uses specialist moisture detection, drying equipment, and ongoing monitoring to identify hidden moisture and confirm when affected areas have reached appropriate moisture levels.

Helping protect the property, reduce unnecessary damage and keep the claim moving.

A single small battery has the potential to ignite a major fire.

Lithium-ion batteries found in vapes, power banks, and other common electronic devices are responsible for hundreds of fires within the UK waste system.

In the year to March 2026 alone:

• 541 waste-site fires were linked directly to lithium-ion batteries
• 216 battery fires happened inside bin lorries

Once crushed or damaged, these batteries can overheat, ignite surrounding waste and create a much bigger incident.

Our latest blog looks at the battery fire risk hiding in household waste, why vapes are part of the problem, and how to dispose of batteries safely.

Your carpet may feel dry on the surface, but moisture could still be lurking underneath.

After leaks, floods, or water spills, moisture can seep through the carpet and underlay into the subfloor, which may include timber floorboards, chipboard, screed, or concrete.

This moisture can become trapped within these materials, between floorboards, around joints and edges, or even spread into walls and skirting boards. While the surface feels dry, moisture may remain hidden beneath.

ServiceMaster Restore employs advanced moisture detection tools to pinpoint affected areas and measure water spread, ensuring that drying efforts focus precisely where needed. If your home experiences water damage, avoid relying solely on touch, as untreated moisture can cause additional damage over time.

Fire damage is stressful enough. The restoration process should not add to it.

Following a fire at a home in Newbury, the team from ServiceMaster Clean By Deeland was brought in to professionally clean the fire and smoke damage and prepare the property for redecoration.

Within just one week of insurer approval, the restoration work was complete. Our self-contained vehicles and truck-mounted equipment meant we could work without relying on the property’s power or water supply, helping minimise disruption for the homeowner.

The result? A clean, safe property ready for the next stage of recovery, and some brilliant feedback from the customer.
