A quiet moment, carved in oak. 🐴

Some sunshine gave me the chance to photograph my latest horse sculpture, capturing that peaceful moment as its muzzle touches the water.

The horse is hand-carved in oak, with its natural grain flowing through the face and neck. Beneath it, I’ve sculpted ripples into steel and used heat to bring out blues, golds and violets that change with the light.

Combining wood and metal opens up some lovely possibilities, and I’m particularly pleased with how these materials work together here.

Sometimes a small change gives a sculpture a whole new character. 🐴

While adjusting the mounting pin for this drinking horse, I tried a sharper angle than I’d originally planned—and much preferred it. There’s something almost magical about the way it appears to float above the steel plinth, defying gravity.

It’s now drying in the office after oiling, which has brought out the beautiful warmth and flowing grain of the oak. The plinth still has a few finishing touches to come, but it’s lovely seeing everything come together.

🦁 Watch a lion emerge from a log—and perhaps take one home!

This lion is finished and ready for this weekend’s Pumpkins in the Park! I’ll also be carving another during my live chainsaw demonstrations, so come along and watch those first big cuts turn into a face full of character.

This chap will be auctioned on Saturday, with the lion I’m carving at the festival going under the hammer on Sunday. A chance to own an original sculpture while helping some wonderful causes ❤️

Proceeds will help support Yellow Door, Society of St James, No Limits, Mountbatten Hospice and Hamble Lifeboat.

Both lions will come back to my studio for oiling and drying before collection or delivery by arrangement—they won’t be ready to leave with their new owners on the day.

Time to say goodbye to Lord Vulturemort! 🦅⛴️

Today I’m heading to the ferry terminal to hand over my African white-backed vulture sculpture for his journey to the Isle of Wight. He’s off to The Falconry Experience for the charity auction on Saturday 17th October, raising funds for VulPro and their work protecting Africa’s vultures.

I’ve loved creating this character, watching him take shape and seeing the grain come to life with the final coat of oil. I’ll miss having him in the workshop, but I’m proud that my work can help support such a worthwhile cause.

Here’s hoping he finds a wonderful new home and raises plenty for his living relatives! If you’re going along, keep an eye out for him—and please give this post a share to help spread the word.
