Did you know that having a plastic consumer unit does not automatically mean an unsatisfactory EICR?

Many older properties still have plastic consumer units installed before current regulations required metal enclosures. During an inspection, the outcome depends on the condition and safety of the installation, not just the material of the consumer unit.

If the consumer unit is in good condition, correctly installed, and shows no signs of damage or overheating, it may still be considered satisfactory.

Current regulations require metal consumer units for new installations or replacements to improve fire safety, but existing plastic units are not automatically a fail.

🔧 If you're unsure about the condition of your electrics, a professional inspection can help ensure everything is safe.

upgrade in a warehouse facility. We removed over 200 old fluorescent batten lights and replaced them with energy-efficient LED fittings throughout.

The project also included installing new self-testing emergency bulkhead lights and modern LED panel lights. To improve efficiency and convenience, the lighting has been set up on motion sensors, eliminating the need for switches in most areas, with manual controls retained only where essential.

A great upgrade that will significantly improve energy efficiency, lighting quality, and long-term reliability.

02:30 emergency call-out 🚨
I responded to a power outage at a commercial facility operating 24/7, travelling into Cornwall to attend the site. The issue was promptly diagnosed and resolved, restoring power and getting the business back up and running with minimal disruption.

A solid effort in the early hours to get the job done and earn some well-deserved sleep afterward. Unfortunately, there was no opportunity to take photos on this call-out.

Thought I had an easy job swapping 4 fluorescent batten lights over to LED 💡
That was until I spotted there was no protective earth to any of the lights.
Not to worry — got everything sorted and made safe for the customer.
Pics show the old fittings and the new LED replacements.

Today’s job reminded me why experience matters 😅
I had to remove a storage heater and seriously underestimated just how heavy these things are. Once opened up, it meant removing all the internal bricks — and there were a lot of them!
All taken out safely and job completed.

DID YOU KNOW!
Loose connections cause more fires than you think. I regularly see burnt and damaged cables on shower circuits from overheating.

You service your car to keep it safe and legal—your electrics deserve the same care. Book an electrical inspection and protect what matters most.
