3H Consulting provide easy to use software for marine geophysics, surveying and archaeology. We also provide training, consultancy and data processing services for projects all over the world. Our Site Recorder software has been used on many of the leading marine archaeological projects completed in recent years and is used by organisations, commercial companies and universities in more than 23 co

3H also undertakes research into survey and recording methods for use in archaeology on the foreshore and underwater, as well as research into marine geophysical techniques for locating and mapping underwater cultural heritage. Much of this research is available in our online Techniques Guide or in published papers.

3H Consulting started in 1997 and is based in Plymouth in the South-West of England. To contact us, please send an email to: [email protected]

Site Recorder 4 was developed from the original 3H product called Site Surveyor. Site Surveyor was developed to overcome some of the problems found when surveying shipwreck sites; Site Surveyor was completed during work on the Resurgam submarine in 1997. The complexity of site recording during the excavation of the Dutch East Indiaman Vliegent Hart in 2000 showed that there was a need for a single program that was capable of capturing all of the information about a site. Site Recorder 3 was developed to fulfill that need and was used on a number of major projects including the Mary Rose excavations in 2003 - 2005.

The news of San Jose's discovery, and recent artefact recoveries from the site, has been seen far and wide. Hard work starts after a wreck of such importance is found. The Colombian Government and El Icanh (National Authority for the Management of Archaeological Heritage) held an online two-day conference on the planned future work on the site. The presentation showed that is an integral part of this future work. The team is using SR because its designed for recording large-scale excavations and includes tools to support deep-water interventions.

We will be speaking tonight on BBC One at 6:30pm about the finding of the and what an exciting find it is!

Finds like this are very important, exciting and rare. A shipwreck like this, though some miles offshore is within sports diving range and can be accessed relativly easily. Discoveries like this would not happen without the amazing dive community in the UK and clubs like BSAC - British Sub-Aqua Club and our own Plymouth Sound Divers, that provide a culture of working together to discover something fabulous like the Gloucester or The Mary Rose . Its also wonderful to see our heritage mangers like Historic England providing guidance, support, funds and conservation so that this ship can be protected and

On this day in 1945, the US Liberty ship James Eagan Layne was torpedoed by U-399 between Plymouth and the Eddystone lighthouse. Despite the huge hole in her side the ship remained afloat and she was beached in Whitsand Bay shortly after. The wreck has been visited by sports divers since the 1950s and is still many divers' favourite wreck.

Irish Navy passes first women diver!
👏⚓️👊💪🇮🇪
History was made at Haulbowline naval base in Co Cork when Sub Lieutenant Tahlia Britton became the first woman to join the Naval Service diving unit.

Completing 100 hours of dives up to 38 meters deep and graduating as the first female diver in the Irish Naval Service.

The Naval Service diving course is considered the toughest, both physically and mentally to be undertaken by members of Ireland’s Defence Forces. The 30 or so elite divers who make up the naval diving unit are responsible for search and recovery, underwater engineering and explosive ordnance disposal operations.

🎉Congrats to Sub. Lt Tahlia Britton!!
