I had my sisters wedding on Saturday hence the photos and relevant post.

The advantages:
Statistically you live longer if married.

You can claim the marriage allowance if one of you is in a lower tax bracket.

No capital gains tax on assets disposed of between husband and wife.

No IHT on assets left to your spouse.

Pensions (money purchase) can be passed on to spouses free of inheritance tax and mostly tax free (dependent) upon value.

Upto c50% of final salary pensions can continue to be paid to the remaining spouse on death.
