MAST Maritime Archaeology Sea Trust (MAST) is a champion for maritime heritage in the UK. MAST is unique in the UK. www.thisismast.org

Work, aside active maritime archaeological projects, includes the Maritime Observatory with partners OceanMind, heritage management, public education and campaigning. MAST – MARITIME ARCHAEOLOGY SEA TRUST

We believe that to protect our nation's future we must understand our past. We believe that this country's rich maritime heritage can provide a critical insight to our history, through the under

water archeology resulting from thousands of years of trade, wars and alliances. We believe that we have a chance to preserve our future, but only together with the help of the people who are forging it, by evaluating and recording our underwater archeology. As a charitable company it exists to investigate and conserve our nation's fragile submerged maritime history to the highest archaeological standards to understand, preserve and protect such sites, to learn from the past and so lay the path for future generations. It takes care to follow the Institute of Archaeologists' strict ethical code of conduct and endorses UNESCO's 2001 Convention on Underwater Cultural Heritage. MAST is a charitable trust and relies entirely on your valuable donations to make our important task possible. MAST is a company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales, number 07455580 and a registered charity 1140497.

Out now! read all about it! Our long awaited publication on how satellite technologies and large-scale digital datasets can be used to monitor and protect underwater cultural heritage. Thanks to funding we were able to investigate, with and using our looting over the Egadi Bronze Age site off the west coast of Sicily. Our research demonstrates how tools including AIS vessel tracking, satellite imagery, and machine learning can help identify risks, deter heritage crime, and support both real-time monitoring and retrospective investigations https://honorfrostfoundation.org/2026/01/23/new-publication-satellite-monitoring-of-underwater-cultural-heritage/

We are delighted this is now in the public domain!

We’re delighted to share Satellite Monitoring of Underwater Cultural Heritage, a new White Paper by MAST with the Maritime Observatory, produced with funding from the Honor Frost Foundation and its Steering Committee for Underwater Cultural Heritage.
The study explores how satellite data and digital technologies can help monitor, protect, and investigate threats to underwater cultural heritage, offering powerful new tools for heritage managers worldwide. https://ow.ly/hsrl50Y4NRM
