On Sunday 11th December 2022, Beech Group, in partnership with Specialist Explosive Services (SES) and Essar Oil (UK) Limited, undertook the final demolition phase of the former SHOP Plant at the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex in Ellesmere Port. This final demolition phase consisted of a highly detailed and methodical “blowdown” of the redundant chimney stack. Throughout the planning stage, all parties maintained constant communications with all key stakeholders, including the Health and Safety Executive and the Civil Aviation Authority amongst others.
The blowdown was executed successfully and to plan. Special thanks to Specialist Explosive Services, Essar Oil (UK) Limited, Richter, FC3 Consulting Ltd and Swanton Consulting Ltd for all of their hard work in pulling together the supporting documentation and ensuring everything was executed as planned.
Beech Group would also like to extend a special mention to all site operatives, supervisors and managers for undertaking much of the pre-weakening work and without whom this project, as with any other, would not have been possible. Their hard work, professionalism and dedication was key to the successful completion of this project. A final thanks must also go out to the Essar Oil (UK) Limited projects team for their fantastic support throughout.
