Are You a Business Networking Tourist?

We've all been there… visited somewhere new, had a look around, taken a few photos, enjoyed a coffee and headed home.
But did we really get to know the place?

Well, business networking can be a bit like that too!
You turn up, deliver your pitch, collect a few business cards, have a coffee and move on to the next meeting.
But are you actually getting anywhere?
There's absolutely nothing wrong with visiting different networking groups; in fact, we encourage it at SBC!

But there's a big difference between visiting a networking meeting and becoming part of a networking community.
Get to know the people behind the businesses. Have conversations beyond your sales pitch. Listen, ask questions and show genuine interest. Arrange those 1-2-1 catchups. Look for ways to help others. Follow up and keep building those relationships.

Because a passport full of networking stamps doesn't necessarily mean you've built a valuable network!

What’s On This Week at Simply Business Club?

Another week is upon us and, as we had our Deal meeting last Friday, there are no SBC breakfast meetings this week, but there are still a couple of opportunities to get out there, have conversations and make connections!

Our weekly online meeting is a great opportunity to connect with people you might not normally get the chance to meet because of location, all without leaving your desk!

TUESDAY – SBC at Thanet Wanderers
6pm – 7.30pm TWRUFC Broadstairs
Our monthly evening networking meeting at the home of Thanet Wanderers RFC.
FREE for SBC members and first-time visitors.

So, whether online works better for you or you fancy some relaxed evening networking tomorrow, there’s still an opportunity to get involved this week.

What would you put on your business networking notice board?

Think about a traditional notice board. You might see: Wanted,
Introduction needed, Coming soon, Event, Vacancy, Help wanted,
Opportunity.

Now imagine your networking meeting as one big business notice board.

Every time you attend, you can tell people what you need, who you're looking for, what's happening in your business, and where others could help.

But here's the important bit…

Don't just post your own notice. Read everyone else's too.

Listen to what other businesses need. Remember who's looking for an introduction. Share opportunities. Recommend people you trust. Make connections when you can.

That's when networking becomes much more than promoting your own business; it becomes a community of people actively looking out for one another.

We’re delighted to announce that Simply Business Club is partnering with Be Your Brand 2026!

On Tuesday 29th September, we’ll be heading to The Village Hotel, Maidstone, for what promises to be a fantastic day of learning, conversations, connections and fresh ideas.

What do you take to a networking meeting?

Business cards?
Phone?
Coffee? Definitely if it's an early one!

But what about a notebook and pen?

It might just be one of the most useful networking tools you have.

Think about how much information you hear during one meeting: names, businesses, services, locations, ideal customers, introductions people are looking for…

Can you honestly remember all of it afterwards?

Taking a few simple notes can help you:

Remember who's who
Make better introductions
Spot referral opportunities
Personalise your follow-up
Really listen to what other people need

Then just like that… we’ve reached the last Bank Holiday weekend of the summer!

It’s been a bit of a strange summer at SBC: holidays, people coming and going, children off school and routines generally being all over the place!

But there’s something about September that always feels like a fresh start.

The children go back to school, diaries become a little easier to manage, routines return, and suddenly we’re heading into the final quarter of the year.

And we’re ready for it!

Plenty is happening at Simply Business Club over the coming months and lots for us to plan, build and look forward to.

But first… one last long summer weekend.

We hope all our members, visitors, friends and followers have a fantastic Bank Holiday weekend. Enjoy the break, recharge the batteries and then let’s come back ready for a big push towards the end of 2026.

We are all fans of something… but are you a fan of business networking?

Think about what being a fan actually means.

You turn up.
You get to know the people around you.

You celebrate the wins.
You stick around when things don't quite go to plan.
And eventually, you become part of a community.
