Have just undertaken a fire assessment of a factory. Overall pretty good, apart from the storage of combustible materials in the production area. The basic fire triangle is often forgotten and leads to an increased fire risk.
Be fire safe!

The recent program about a large stately home preparing for a Christmas event was worrying.
Five hundred real candles were used amongst the decorations,and the lady of the house said on camera that the ancient electrics were a concern whilst plugging in a series of extension cables.
Would not have done it on my watch.

I visited a bakery this week, to my surprise (or not) they had dry powder extinguishers everywhere.
Considering that these have not been recommended for use inside buildings for nearly ten years you have to wonder, who did the fire risk assessment and what quality of fire extinguisher company are they using.
I don’t think that their customers would like the taste of powder on their bread.

I am about to risk assess two blocks of flats, that have never had a fire risk assessment. They are only 15 years behind their obligations!!

Care homes do not employ enough staff at night to ensure an effective evacuation strategy.
Managers have no idea of the expected evacuation time of a sub compartment.
Fire doors are not to the required standard.
Training is abysmal.
End of rant and I am keeping my fingers crossed.

If you are seeking fire safety advice from a company don’t just take as gospel what they want to sell you. The photos show two examples of unnecessary signs that are just spoiling the look of the church.
Fire exit keep clear signs are only required where there is the likelihood of the exit becoming obstructed by a vehicle or stock etc. Judge for your self.

If you manage a block of flats you should ensure that the flat entrance doors are to FD30S standard. If they have a letter box or if they are plastic it is most likely that they are not.
Common areas should be maintained clear of combustible items and possibly obstructions.
I have recently audited a block of 24 flats with no fire doors, this places persons on the upper floors at great risk.
