In January 2024 I set myself some goals for the year ahead (as you do). One of those goals was a new car! Not just any new car, I wanted a red Mini with CUP HOLDERS.
I didn’t achieve that goal by December but I did go and pick up my shiney red Mini today with all the spec including 5 cupholders (there are only 4 seats!).
What’s important is that although I didn’t meet my deadline I did continue to work and eventually achieved my goal!
So now I need to decide what my next goal is - do I want a holiday to the Maldives or a shiney new expensive handbag. Regardless of what I choose I will continue to work hard and set myself goals!! 🚗

It’s neurodiversity week and as some of you may know, my son was diagnosed with autism in 2020.

It’s been a steep learning curve for us as his parents and as hard working, career minded individuals one of our biggest concerns is if he will be able to find a job slash career that fulfills him but can accommodate his need for adjustments.

Within the UK 68% of the adult population with autism are long term unemployed and this stat keeps us awake at night.

Neurodiversity can be a recognised disability and employers have a legal obligation to make reasonable adjustments. These adjustments can be so simple but so effective and ultimately the difference between someone holding down a job or not.

A simple example is my son receives a calming sensory input when he eats crunchy snacks so at school they always keep a small bag of pretzels with him at all times. That is how simple and easy the solution could be to increasing the number of neurodiverse employees within the workplace!
