Family mediation

Relationship breakdowns are a stressful time. After a separation, many couples have difficulty in reaching agreements about children, finances and living arrangements.

A mediator can help by being a calm and impartial third party, listening to both sides and supporting you to reach an agreement that feels fair to each party.

Mediation must be attempted by attending a MIAM (mediation information & assessment meeting), before making any applications to court.

Read more about mediation below. Friendly McKenzie are available to support throughout the mediation process. Book your free 30 minute consult to find out more.

Have you been affected by domestic abuse?

Friendly McKenzie - support in family court.

Separation/divorce is often a highly stressful time. Emotions can run high leading to lack of agreement or cooperation about child contact and financial matters. Court should always be a last resort for families, but if this is where you find yourself, Friendly McKenzie can help.

What is a McKenzie Friend?
A McKenzie Friend (MF) provides practical and emotional support to someone who is going through the family courts but does not have a solicitor/barrister to represent them. A person without formal legal representation is known as a litigant in person (or LIP).

What a MF can do:
Explain the family court process and legal jargon
Help with court applications, writing position/final statements
File management
Attend court hearings, take notes and give quiet advice
Provide moral support

What a MF cannot do:
Sign court documents
Speak on behalf of a LIP in court
Cross examine witnesses
