Westmorland and Furness Way long-distance walking trail launches!

Walkers and outdoor enthusiasts can lace up their boots as the Westmorland and Furness Way was officially opened yesterday.

Spanning 120 miles of varied terrain and picturesque landscapes, the brand-new signed walking route establishes a direct link between Alston, England’s highest market town, and Furness Abbey on the heritage-rich Furness Peninsula.

Built on a concept by local guidebook writer and walker, David Pitt, and delivered by Westmorland and Furness Council, the route utilises existing public paths where possible, to bridge four distinct regions: the North Pennines National Landscape, the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District, and Morecambe Bay, taking in dramatic mountain views, peaceful valleys, and coastal vistas along the way. It is walkable in either direction.

Sedbergh Economic Partnership (SEP) is looking for a new Chair to help lead the Partnership into its next chapter.
We are particularly keen to hear from people with a business background, or with a strong understanding of the local economy, who are passionate about the future of Sedbergh and the surrounding area. The successful candidate will be able to provide positive, independent and collaborative leadership and help ensure that the Partnership remains focused on supporting the long-term economic prosperity of Sedbergh and its wider community.
The role is voluntary and unpaid but offers an opportunity to play an important part in shaping and supporting SEP's work, bringing together businesses, community representatives and partner organisations.
If you are interested, or know of someone who may be interested, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please email [email protected] for our person spec.
Those interested would be required to send a short personal statement outlining how you feel your experience, skills and personal qualities meet the person specification.
Applications should be submitted by 10 September, with a decision expected on 18 September. The next SEP meeting, under a new Chairperson, will take place on 30 October.

The Economic Development team are coming to Sedbergh People’s Hall on Monday 15th June at 2pm to provide an overview of the Council’s new Economic Growth Strategy, a 10-yr plan.
This will provide businesses with a chance to discuss opportunities and wider priorities for the town.
