The start of the year has been a thoughtful one for me, hence my very quiet time on the RiverRhee page.
I have had the pleasure of participating in two writing courses, one very generously donated for free by Beth Kempton, the other, which is still ongoing, with Rebecca Stonehill.
Both have given me a way of comforting and resourcing myself in the context of my work for human and what feels appositely described as more-than-human life on this beautiful and precious planet.
Last night, I had the fulfilling experience of facilitating a second round of exploration with Rachel Pryor, FRSA's Thrutopian coaching cards with members of my local community.
As I wrote in my reflections at the end of the evening: "What has come up for me this evening is a validation of a lot of what I have been thinking. A way to articulate that, and to keep drawing on through these cards and conversations with others. And comfort from that: that this is possible for and accessible to me."
It was eerie how each card that was seemingly randomly allocated to us felt both a challenge and just right for what we each needed at that time.
I have been searching for a way to use my renewed and deepened love of writing, and I think it will be to create stories to boldly challenge the narratives that we are living by, and to share what being more transformative could look and feel like.
In this I have been particularly inspired by my ongoing dialogue with the community around Sarah Wilson and her "Collapse" series, and the books I am reading with my two local book clubs. We have just finished Vanessa Machado de Oliveira's "Hospicing Modernity", and are in the midst of Francis Weller's "In the Absence of the Ordinary". And I feel I have thrived on Robert Macfarlane's "Is a River Alive".
I also realised last night how important it is to slow down and build relationships for this transformative work that we need to do.
I will be leaning into all of this and seeing where it takes me in the coming weeks and months, and so will continue to be relatively quiet on LinkedIn.
I am still doing my coaching work for those who are Autistic and ADHDers, and I am curious to have conversations with anyone keen to explore the other aspects that I have described in this post. Do get in touch.
(Thank you too Linda Aspey for our ongoing supervision group sessions - they are part of this mix for me too!)
Welcome to the Thrutopian Project. A place for people who sense that the system is collapsing - not just economically or ecologically, but morally - and know it’s time to step into something deeper, braver, and more beautiful. Are you a Thrutopian? Are you someone who tries
