Well that's the first Wool Week since I gave up Loose Ends been and gone!! I decided that I wasn't going to commit to teaching any classes this year, but do something totally different.
So I booked selling space in the Happening in Ollaberry Hall, and had the most fantastic 5 days. There was a beautiful display of knitwear - hundreds of lace and Fair Isle items. The eats provided every day were delicious. But best of all was the number of former customers there. It was so good to catch up with people I haven't seen since leaving the shop, it was great to see you all.
Thursday was a different day, and a different hall. Sandness this time, where there was a display of more beautiful knitwear, mainly from westside knitters, as well as a really interesting storyboard. Lots of photographs, historical documents and accessories telling the story of the Jamieson family and the progression of the Sandness mill from the first building, right through to what it is today. Fascinating. Hopefully this will be another 'first', and that it will become an annual event. Oh, and there was food too!! An excellent lunch with no less than 4 different soups on offer, as well as tea, coffee and a huge selection of homebakes.
Friday was back down to earth with a bump, and back to work. I've been doing 2 days a week in the Shetland Textile Museum over this summer, which I've really enjoyed, and as we're open for extra days over Wool Week I've done my usual Friday and Saturday, and today, and will be working there tomorrow as well. Again, there have been so many lovely people visiting over the summer, as well as the past few weeks.
The Textile Museum will close for the season on Saturday (12th), I'm heading away for few days the following week, then it will be back to the usual winter activities of knitting, playing 500, makkin and yakkin in Nesting and Sullom, and did I mention knitting?
