Southams Recycling Schemes - At the GAC

Hi all,

Sorry for the lack of contact!

Unfortunately I am finding it increasingly difficult to manage this with everything else I have on at the moment so I am taking the hard decision to stand down.

Please if there is anyone else out there who can come forward to do the sorting I would be so grateful and I really don't want to see it disappear completely. There isn't actually loads to do now as most soft plastics go to Tesco now but just needs a bit of time to sort and keep up with social media to keep people informed (this bit I am really not good at!)

I will do a last sort of what is left in the bins at some point with the aim to finish at the end of Feb.

A big thank you to my volunteer for sorting the pringles and bread bags!

If anyone has any time to help after Easter please let me know! 😊

Also remember we are no longer collecting confectionery wrappers so all your Easter chocolate and sweet packaging will need to be taken to Tesco instead.

Thought this looked interesting. Haven't looked into it further to see what pubs are part of the scheme yet though but I'll let you know if I find out.

I've done a combined Terracycle and Plastic Free Southam tree at the Christmas tree festival at St James Church. ♻️🙂
Come along and have a look at everyone's lovely trees this weekend! Open Friday 10-12, Saturday 10-12 and 3-5 and Sunday 3-5 x

Hello everyone,

Unfortunately the Confectionery recycling scheme has now stopped so thank you to everyone who has brought in their packets or helped sort over the last few years. Confectionery wrappers can now be taken with your other soft plastics to Southam Tesco to recycle instead.

I thought I would also take this opportunity to let everyone know what we are still collecting at the Graham Adams Centre:

Oral Care - all brands of oral care - plastic toothbrushes and outer packing, toothpaste tubes, caps and cartons, plastic toothbrush heads, dental floss containers and outer packaging (please no glass), mouthwash bottles and caps. (Please remove as much toothpaste from tubes as possible)

Pringles - Only Pringles brand tubes, no lids or seals please

Crackers, Biscuits and cake wrappers - Any brand non savoury biscuit wrapper, any brand cake wrapper, any brand cracker wrapper

Warburtons wax wrap

Any brand plastic bread bags and closure tags, any brand other bakery item plastic packaging

Any other soft plastics can be taken to Tesco to be recycled (there is a big cage in the foyer that you can throw them in). Please do not bring anything to the GAC other than those listed above as I have to sort through them and dispose of them myself. Thank you :-)

We also collect used postage stamps and Ink Cartridges at the GAC but these are collected on behalf of Cats Protection.

Other local schemes:
- Contact lens packaging - collected by Janet Porter Opticians on Southam High Street
- Empty Blister packets for medication - can be taken to Superdrug in Leamington Spa (Please don't leave them at the Graham Adams Centre as I can't take them)
- Old Makeup can be taken to Tesco - there is a collection box behind the checkouts
- Batteries can be taken to Tesco or left out in a separate bag with your kerbside recycling collection

I'm sure there are more I haven't remembered so any questions please ask. I would rather you ask than just guess.

I've had a fun day shrinking packets to make Christmas decorations for our terracycle tree at the Christmas tree festival James Church!

Please do come along between 24th and 26th November and have a look at all the lovely trees from lots of lovely local groups. I'll share the link in the comments for more info.

Also if anyone wants to help me setup the tree on 23rd Nov late afternoon/evening please contact me! 😊

Thank you to everyone that helped with sorting yesterday. We have cleared the confectionery bin now and have 2 boxes to send off! Plus a box of warburtons wax wraps!
