Well as many of you know, the consulting practice is winding down at the moment. We have been privileged to work with so many wonderful people and on so many exciting projects over the past 11 years. New opportunities however presented themselves late last year, that represented amazing opportunities for both Renée and myself.

I have taken up a position with the National Transport Research Organisation as Executive Director (Ports and Airports), whilst Renée has taken up a role with GHD as a Senior Advisor in their Advisory Services stream of their business. Both incredibly exciting opportunities where we will remain working with our wonderful clients around Australia and New Zealand.

Over the last 11 years we’ve also had the chance to present at 7 global conferences/workshops and connected with colleagues throughout the port industry. These people and places have inspired us, and allowed us to bring back that knowledge for our industry here - SDGs, sustainability, materiality work, supply chain protection & efficiency matters, decarbonisation, environmental management approaches, community engagement, better planning and project management approaches have been key topics.

A wrap up of our amazing 11years will appear here in due course.

Our best wishes, JS & RMc

Arrived back in Australia following a successful European trip. Centered around our attendance at the World GreenPort Congress where I presented and co-facilitated a Sustainability workshop on Materiality Assessments with participants from Europe, UK, Asia and North America. Reinforcing the need for meaningful stakeholder engagement in the strategy development process was the central theme. This was our 4th World GreenPort Congress - and as per usual it provided insights into the pace of sustainability work across the globe - particularly the acceleration of energy transition, electrification and digitalisation. Congress tour on the last day saw us travel through the Port of Zebrugge - with site visits to LNG and Car Terminals - enormous operations !!

Whilst in Europe, we also took the time to visit Cambridge University’s Institute for Sustainability Learning - through which we have both recently completed Executive Education courses, and UNESCO headquarters in Paris where World Heritage matters are administered……and determined.

Transport energy transition (via electrification, hybrid and hydrogen options) and the push towards more sustainable forms of ‘mobility’ are clearly evident in both the port and general city environments in Europe and the UK - from large ocean-going vessels and cargo handling equipment - to bikes, buses, trucks and trains. It is just a way of life.

I always return from these trips with great enthusiasm about the endless energy transition and transport opportunities for our nation. Enduring partnerships, good people and investment certainty will be the keys to our future (& cleaner) prosperity.

World Maritime Day 2022.

The theme for this year reflects the need to support a green transition of the maritime sector into a sustainable future, while leaving no one behind. It provides an opportunity to focus on the importance of a sustainable maritime sector and the need to build back better and greener in a post pandemic world.

We celebrate those amazing g people working at sea - and the endless sustainable opportunities ahead !! ✅

Healthy oceans and seas are essential to our existence. They cover 70 percent of our planet and we rely on them for food, energy and water. We must all work in partnership to responsibly manage and protect all marine life around the world.

My September DCN article focusses on the IPCC report and the need for a clear climate change commitment leading up to COP26 in Glasgow. We need stronger Commonwealth conviction to help investment confidence and the continued transition to a cleaner economy. We already have the technology and science to deliver transformational change and open up significant economic opportunities for our nation. https://lnkd.in/ggjTJhe
