Happy Earth Day from NetShift!
Today is and this year's theme - Our Power, Our Planet - feels really close to home. Particularly after supporting to calculate their net positive footprint last month π π π³
Because that's exactly what we believe. That change doesn't happen in boardrooms or by government decree alone. It happens in pub kitchens and village halls, in the decisions made by small business owners in Devon who are trying to do right by their community and their place.
Here's why it matters that SMEs are in this conversation:
π UK small and medium-sized businesses account for around 37% of the UK's total greenhouse gas emissions - yet most are still without the data, tools or support to know where to start.
π 77% of UK SMEs have already taken at least one action towards net zero - there's far more momentum out there than the headlines suggest.
π Only 36% have publicly shared a net zero target. That gap between doing and telling is exactly where a Carbon Reduction Plan makes a difference.
Through the NetShift programme, we've been working with Devon SMEs - pubs, refilleries, farms, CSAs, high street shops, fish and chip shops, community organisations, independent schools - to help them understand their emissions, celebrate what they're already doing, and take practical steps forward.
No jargon. No judgement. Just honest numbers and a clear next step.
FUN FACT
Earth Day started in 1970 with 20 million people deciding that their voice and their choices mattered. 56 years on, we think the same is true for small businesses in the South West.
