Is your business relying on one person?
If you answered yes, ask yourself Why?
• Why do you rely on one person?
• Why do they know everything?
• Why do they keep things moving?
• Why can they fix issues so quickly?
• Why can no one else step in and do the same?
Relying on one person does not feel like a problem until it becomes one.
Often it works because they knows everything, keeps things moving, and can fix issues quickly.
What happens when they can’t?
This is where the risk sits, what has actually happened is you have unknowingly create a single point of failure.
If any of the following happens it will cause problems:
• They are too busy to deal with something.
• The are off.
• They leave the business.
At that point, the business is exposed. There is no clear structure for others to pick things up and keep things moving.
This is not a people issue. It’s a process issue.
When processes are clear, documented, and kept up to date, knowledge is shared. Work becomes repeatable, and the business is no longer reliant on one individual.
If this feels familiar, I am always happy to have a conversation and share a few practical pointers.
