Hola, friends old and new 😘 I am coming back đŸ’Ș

I hope you’re all good and haven’t missed me too much.

The last few months have been fairly epic 👌

Watching how Body Tech has progressed has a brand in such a short time, has been nothing short of phenomenal.

I’m quite honoured to share in the journey with such a committed team, I don’t think there’s another quite like it.

I will continue to do so, the teams work is far from over đŸ’Ș

However
.

I am making a solid return to coaching, which I always intended to carry on, though time only permits so much 😌

There are too many stones left unturned 👌

First up though, a Body Tech team trip to Thailand for some much needed fun in the sun đŸ„°

Then in April, we commence.

Until then, I hope you’re all doing wonderfully well in this wild world 😌 I missed yas.

Sincerely,

Your friendly neighbourhood personal trainer

Calf tips (and leg training diaries)

The most underutilised calf training tip is this - pause at the bottom.

2 reasons.

1) In studies comparing full range, the top half of the range, or isolating the lower half, isolating the lower half has been shown to yield the most gains.

Yet most people bounce their calf raises in the top range đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž a tale as old as time.

2) Pausing at the bottom ‘may’ turn off the rebounding effect of the Achilles tendon. Thought of to be a reactive tendon to help with sprinting, the consensus for a long time was to pause calf raises for 3-5 seconds at the bottom, which transfers more of the load onto the calf itself.

Plus, pausing at the stretch point in any movement helps build mobility, and given most people have tight calves - this is neat.

So chill the f*** out, count to 3 / Mississippi.

In other news — hyper extensions up to 25kg đŸ€˜ my back and buns are feeling juicy đŸ’Ș

And today saw sissy squats on the pendulum squat instead of the hack squat, just for a little change.

The quads are enjoying the return to lifting, they don’t need much to start responding so I’m buzzing that training momentum is picking up đŸ€˜

Enjoy a small glimpse of the last 6 weeks. Hard to believe it’s only been about that long since I left Liverpool.

Not going to lie (because I hate that s**t), I found moving really hard at first.

There’s so much to be positive about but I’m a creature of habit and change takes some getting used to. I have a big support circle in Liverpool and luckily - a very loving family. Half my life is there, and I miss my identity as the world’s greatest personal trainer 😛

However, I’m happy I made the move here, half my life has always been on this side of the water. It’s amazing to strengthen and expand my relationships here, while getting immersed in a shared dream and learning new skill sets.

Feel like I’ve lived a year’s worth of memories in the last 6 weeks, and I know some people would kill for that s**t. Life is made for living and mine is certainly well lived 😅

I wish anyone reading this the very best in life, here’s to the next chapter đŸ·

Protein - you’re made from it, it gets you jacked and sexy, but how much do you need?

Probably more than you think, BUT, don’t stress

Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither are you

Remember, most people eat very little protein

So although a high protein intake might feel challenging at first, you’ll get into it đŸ«¶

The longer you train, the most important it is you get to that ‘optimal range’

After all, the act of exercising in itself increases the demands for protein intake, plus you actually absorb it better by being active đŸ’Ș

Just think of it like this;

If you want a bigger better house, you’re gonna need more bricks

The act of building a bigger house demands it đŸ’Ș

But, that doesn’t mean you need to hit the perfect number right away

Especially if you’ve been eating a low protein intake for a while
 I mean you’re still here right? đŸ€Ł

So building on top of where you’re at today, is better than you were yesterday đŸ’Ș

Just don’t miss the forest for the trees

Sweating about ‘optimal this optimal that’ is for people with years of proper training experience under their belt

Just get it in and do your training.

Much love đŸ€˜

Your potential could be boundless if you tried â˜șđŸ’Ș

I believe in everyone, I really do

See, until you get going, we don’t know how far your destiny goes

You could be ‘the one’, capable of things you can’t imagine yet

Even if you don’t believe in yourself

After all, it’s hard to have confidence in actions you haven’t done yet

That’s why I think at some point
everyone should throw themselves in the deep end

Because you might find out you’re a fu***ng beast

You might find have unstoppable confidence and strength waiting to happen

At the very least
 I know for a FACT

That you can be significantly, significantly more capable than today

How?

Because we know no matter what level you’re at today

That if you try hard, relative to yourself

You’ll give your body a reason to adapt to that stress

And you WILL be one step stronger the next session

That’s the same at 20,30,40,50,60 years old

It’s the reliability of science đŸ€˜

So what if you had 100-150 of those sessions under your belt?

(Training 2-3x per week for the year)

I know what that could do for you, so it’s easy for me to believe in you

You might have no idea what that could do yet

So alls I’d say is

Don’t count yourself out because you haven’t tried yet

Or beat yourself up if you’ve fell off the horse

‘Potential’ doesn’t have a stop watch

It’ll wait until you’re ready and reward you when you are

So trust homie

You’re a beast 😉 you might just not be yet đŸ€˜

Much love

This is more a post for me đŸ«¶

When I was 5-6 years old, I grew up in a pretty dysfunctional broken home, I was bullied plenty for my religious background and I had zero confidence

It might sound funny, but watching Dragon Ball Z was like the replacement for my Dad

Seeing the characters overcome any struggle, made me believe one day my life could be different

It made me believe with enough training, hard work and always being willing to rise to the challenge

That I could turn from the nerdy weak unconfident kid, to a hero just like my guy Goku đŸ§ĄđŸ«¶

It’s honestly the reason I know how to train hard - and for many boys of my generation this story is the same.

It’s unbelievable how one man mainly known for writing funny stories

Ended up creating something that 30 years later still continues to radically inspire boys and men alike.

I don’t think I’d have a lot of the values I have without this show.

Probably the first time a ‘celebrities’ passing got me, but Akira, I’m gonna bust out so many push ups and pull ups in your name sir.

There will never be another like you đŸ«Ą

Rest in peace you absolute champion.

This is my biggest why for anything.

Disclaimer; I love all my nieces and nephews equally đŸ€Ł

But this picture with lil Jayme, my niece, always makes me want to be a real hero.

Kids idolise, absorb and imitate.

As ‘The Crow’ once said, in the eyes of a child - mother is God.

Whenever I see this, I think, how could I let them down?

Kids don’t wanna see us suck, they love us for who we are, but they wish we’d live forever and play with them.

I remember when I was her age, my father was about 40

He was treating himself really poorly and I literally begged him to stop and turn it around

I’d seen pictures and heard stories of him being really fit

Yet alls I got was a guy with no time to play, who couldn’t walk up the street quick without gassing

I didn’t think he was a bellend, but I wondered why he wouldn’t do more for me

Now I’m older and had various experiences with addiction, ofcourse I have more empathy than ever

But addiction still isn’t an excuse bigger than stepping up for your family

Your loved ones are more than a reason to conquer anything, but you *have to meditate* on the mentality that their long term needs are more important than your short term fixes.

You don’t just wake up ready to win, that’s a fantasy
