I think one of the hardest things about running a business is that you can become so used to carrying everything that you stop noticing quite how much you’re carrying.

The client work. The emails. The admin. The things you need to remember. The jobs you keep meaning to get round to.

And when you’re busy keeping everything moving, it’s not always easy to see what’s taking up your time and headspace, or what you might be ready to let go of.

That’s really why I created The Calm Business Check-in.

It’s a free guided journal, but it isn’t another productivity tool or a list of things you should be doing differently.

It’s simply somewhere to pause for a little while, look at how your business feels right now and think about what you’d like to feel different.

Sometimes we don’t need another thing to do.

We just need enough space to notice what’s already there.

If that sounds useful, you can download The Calm Business Check-in free from my website 🌿

One of my clients is on holiday this week.

We've only been working together for a few weeks, but she's trusted me to keep things ticking over while she's away.

And I think that's one of the things I value most about the way I work with my clients.

It's not really about being given a list of jobs to get through. It's about getting to know their business well enough that they don't have to think about everything themselves.

This week that's meant keeping an eye on things for one client while she's away, squeezing in a few last-minute requests for another, and getting newsletters and social content ready for another.

Three very different businesses, needing very different things from me.

But the common thread is the same - knowing there's someone there who understands the business, cares about it and will quietly get on with what needs doing.

That's the kind of support I love providing 🌿

There’s something really satisfying about joining a business and quickly feeling like you’re making a difference.

I’ve been working with a new client for a couple of weeks now, getting to know a business she’s spent more than a decade building.

The other day she described it as having a fresh pair of eyes (with a much stronger tendency for organisation 😂) on the “tangled web” she’s created over the years.

And I loved that.

Because I’m not there to come in and change everything.

I’m there to understand how her business works, spot where things could feel easier and gradually take more and more off her mind.

A few weeks in and we’re already making great progress. Things are feeling more organised, we’re getting lots done and, most importantly, she’s feeling the difference.

This is exactly the kind of work I love.

Getting properly involved in a business, becoming someone a client can rely on and making things feel that little bit easier 🌿

If that sounds like the kind of support you’ve been looking for, I do still have space for one more ongoing client.

One of the biggest business decisions I've made wasn't to grow.

It was to grow differently.

A few years ago, I realised I was spending more time managing people than doing the work I loved.

Scaling back wasn't a step backwards. It was a conscious decision to build a business around long-term client relationships instead of managing a larger team.

It's changed the way I work, the clients I attract and, ultimately, how much I enjoy running my business.

Sometimes success isn't about adding more.

Sometimes it's about building a business that fits the life you want to live.

I'd love to know... what's one business decision you've made that might have looked unusual from the outside, but turned out to be exactly the right one?

"I know I need some support."

It's something I hear quite often from business owners.

The next sentence is usually:

"...I just don't know what I need."

It's easy to assume support is about handing over emails, diary management or admin.

Sometimes it is.

But often, what people are really looking for is someone who can bring a bit more structure, take away some of the mental load and quietly keep things moving.

That's exactly what I explore in my latest blog, The support business owners don't realise they need.

Today I'm welcoming a new client.

Starting a new client relationship is always one of my favourite parts of the job.

Every business is different, and I love getting to know how someone works, what's important to them and where I can make life a little easier.

The best working relationships aren't built overnight. They grow over time through trust, consistency and understanding how a business evolves.

This week I get to begin that journey with someone new, and I'm really looking forward to what's ahead 🌿

How is it already the end of July?

This month has included family time, plenty of coffee, a few good books, walks in the sunshine, and lots of conversations with lovely clients.

There have been moments where life felt busy, moments where it felt calm, and probably a few moments somewhere in between too.

But if there's one thing I've been reminded of this month, it's how important it is not to rush through the ordinary days.

They're often the ones that end up meaning the most.

Here's to August and whatever it brings.

Fresh flowers picked from the garden always make me happy 🌺🌻🌼

Anyone who knows me will know that I already have a house full of houseplants. They are, without question, my biggest obsession.

I seem physically incapable of walking past a garden centre without bringing another one home.

But there's something extra special about bringing fresh flowers in from the garden.

These have been making me smile this week, so I thought I'd share them.

No business lesson.

No productivity tip.

Just some pretty flowers and a little bit of joy.

I was enjoying a quiet moment recently and found myself thinking about how much my definition of success has changed over the years.

There was a time when I thought success meant being busy all the time.

A full diary.

A never-ending to-do list.

Always having something else to work on.

Now?

Success looks much quieter.

Work I enjoy.

Lovely clients.

Time for family.

A walk when the sun is shining.

A good book waiting on the bedside table.

I still have goals and ambitions, but these days I'm much more interested in building a business that fits around my life rather than the other way round.

One of the nicest compliments I've ever received from a client wasn't about a particular piece of work.

It was when they said they felt calmer knowing things were being looked after.

That stuck with me because it's exactly what I hope good support provides.

Not just a completed task.

Not just a crossed-off to-do list.

But the feeling that everything isn't resting entirely on your shoulders anymore.

I think a lot of business owners carry far more than they realise.

Sometimes having the right support isn't about getting more done.

Sometimes it's about feeling like you're not carrying everything on your own.
