OK! This a long one, please read 📚
So I feel the time has come to address this!
Today on Jeremy Vine On 5 bbc radio 2, the discussion was had about cake sheds! How the council's are aiming to make us bakers pay for a trading license, db's and other street trading licenses on top to have our cake sheds on our own properties.
Now! When I opened my cake shed last year in July, I asked the local council about any licenses etc and I was laughed at, they didn't know what i was talking about, now because so many are opening sheds, the council's are jumping on the bakers who are legitimately just trying to earn a decent wage in these awful times.
Now, apparently we earn £90.000 a year , aren't registered and aren't safe!
So, my story! I am most certainly registered, I have trained and passed (i do this every year) my level 3 food and hygiene, allergen exams and I have public liability insurance and 5* rating awarded by the local council, because I have HAD inspections (every 3 years). My kitchen and protocols are safe!
To find out if a business has a food rating, i.e inspected you can input there business name and town and see if they've been inspected, if not they won't appear in the website.. if not don't buy from them, these are the businesses who will not be safe, not allergen aware properly, not have safe protocols in there kitchen and won't be paying tax!
Lastly, if i earned more than the average person annually then I definitely wouldnt be working 12/14 a day to keep a roof over my kiddos head! Plus I'd have my hair done more that twice a year and atleast one holiday every year instead of every 5 years...lastly I wouldnt cry when I see the price of real butter!
Please support your local bakers, there are a fair few in Stafford who are doing it properly and are absolutely blummin fantastic! We all work so hard to create special cakes and bakes for you all.
Thank you for reading!
