Yesterday, our Director Ian attended a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing at Pantygwydr Baptist Church in Swansea.

The 45-minute film brings together leading scientists, experts and public figures to discuss the climate and nature emergency, following the landmark live briefing held at Westminster Central Hall in November 2025.

As a business working in renewable energy, it is always valuable to step back from the day-to-day work of installing solar and battery systems and look at the wider challenge we are all working towards.

A thought-provoking watch and well worth seeing if there is a screening taking place near you.

Take a look at some of our recent installations ☀️

1️⃣ 27 × DMEGC 470 W panels, giving around 13 kWp, paired with a Fox 10 kW inverter (Pictures 1 to 3).

The inverter’s four separate MPPTs allowed us to manage the different roof areas independently and make the best use of the available space.

This customer didn’t opt for a battery because most of their electricity consumption takes place during the day. It is a good example of why every system should be designed around the customer rather than sold as a standard package.

2️⃣ 12 × DMEGC 475 W panels, giving 5.7 kWp, with a Fox 6 kW inverter and 11.5 kWh battery (Pictures 4 to 6).

Fox offers a wide range of battery options, which gives us plenty of flexibility when designing systems for different homes.

3️⃣ A Solis S6 5 kW hybrid inverter paired with a 16.1 kWh Fogstar battery (Picture 7).

Fogstar batteries are proving very popular thanks to their strong £/kWh value, while Solis offers a solid and increasingly smart hybrid inverter platform.

We’re pleased to welcome Adam, who is joining Ulex Energy as a First Year Electrical Apprentice on the Electrical Installation pathway.

Adam will be working alongside our installation team, gaining hands-on experience across solar PV, battery storage and wider electrical work as he develops his skills and works towards becoming a qualified electrician.

We’re proud to support the next generation entering the electrical industry and look forward to seeing Adam progress with us.

Another busy week for the team!

This week we completed a 21-panel installation across four separate roof areas, paired with a Fox KH8 inverter and three EP6 batteries, providing a total of 18 kWh of battery storage.

With panels spread across different roof orientations, the three MPPTs on the KH8 allowed us to manage the different aspects independently and make the most of the available roof space. (Pics 1–3)

We also completed a smaller 9-panel east-west installation, using a Fox H1 6 kW inverter coupled with an EP12 battery (Pics 4-6).

Whether you have a large roof, a small roof or several different roof areas, good solar design is about making the best use of the space available.

Another busy week of solar & battery installations across South Wales.

This week our team completed two very different systems, showing why we prefer to design each installation around the property and how the customer intends to use their energy.

System 1: 7.7 kWp solar + Fox ESS storage (Pic 1 to 4)

• 15 × DMEGC 515 W solar panels
• Fox ESS KH7 hybrid inverter
• Fox ESS EP12 battery

We are big fans of the KH7. Its three independent MPPTs give us plenty of design flexibility, particularly on properties with multiple roof aspects or areas affected by shading.

System 2: 32 kWh modular battery storage (Pic 5)

• LuxPower 10 kW hybrid inverter
• 32 kWh of modular Fogstar battery storage

Fogstar batteries are becoming an increasingly popular option where customers want a large amount of storage for the investment. Their modular design makes them particularly attractive for larger systems and tariff arbitrage – charging cheaply off-peak and using that stored energy when electricity is more expensive.

They are also IP65 rated, giving us the flexibility to install them outdoors where appropriate.

Our Director, Ian Mach, was speaking today at Solar & Storage Live on the panel:

“Unlocking self-consumption with solar, storage and EV charging”

A really interesting discussion around how solar, battery storage and EV charging can work together to maximise on-site energy use.

The points covered included:

-Integrating solar, battery storage and EV charging so the different technologies work together rather than as separate systems.

-Maximising self-consumption by using solar directly where possible, storing surplus for later and shifting flexible loads such as EV charging.

-Using smart tariffs and charging strategies to improve the economics, rather than relying solely on solar generation.

-Designing systems around the property and future demand, including EVs, heat pumps and potential future technologies such as bidirectional charging.

Customer & Operations Coordinator – Part Time

Ulex Energy is growing, and we're looking for a friendly, organised and proactive person to join our team.

This isn't just a data-entry role. You'll help coordinate our solar and battery projects from the first customer enquiry through to installation and aftercare.

You'll be helping with:
☀️ Customer enquiries and communication
📅 Booking surveys and coordinating installations
💻 Keeping our projects and CRM up to date
📋 Project paperwork and administration
✅ Making sure projects keep moving and nothing gets missed

No solar experience is required – we'll provide training and help you learn the industry.

The role will be predominantly home-based, with around half a day each week working together in the Swansea area. There will be more face-to-face training during the first couple of months.

We're looking for someone who is great with customers, exceptionally organised, comfortable with technology and takes pride in getting things done.

Plug-in solar panels are now legal to buy and use in England, Scotland and Wales—but that does not mean every solar panel with a plug is compliant or suitable for every home.

Approved systems can generate up to 800W and may offer a practical way for renters, flat owners and households without a suitable roof to produce some of their own electricity.
